Update 09/23/10:
Tucker continues to thrive in his foster home with all the love and care he is receiving! He is growing by leaps and bounds! He is also doing very well with his housebreaking! Tucker will automatically give a “shake paw” in combination with the “sit” command. He has also learned the “down” command and spreads out like a frog when he goes down! Good boy! And he also knows to “stay” when his foster mom leaves the fenced in yard.
When it is feeding time, Tucker still gets all excited and does several leaps in the air till his bowl is placed down inside the crate. Leash training is going well; he will now walk alone with his foster mom on their walks, weaving back and forth at first and sometimes jumping up at his foster mom to be picked up, but he is learning that he can very easily walk on all four paws! Tucker likes to go for car rides but is a bit restless on the road.
The baby pool is still a favorite of Tucker. He will jump right into the pool when a toy is thrown in, then off to the dirt he goes and back into the pool, till the water is a nice shade of brown! Tucker has been spending some time with the resident cats and continues to do well with them. He stays away from the one cat as she smacked him on the nose. He prefers to just quickly check them out and then leave them alone. What a good boy!
Recently, Tucker was a guest at an event which MAESSR was attending. He certainly knows how to charm everyone and was a crowd pleaser and show stopper! Tucker greeted all adults and children very nicely and also made many a canine friend! Tucker also attended MAESSR’s picnic in Maryland and was quite a hit there as well! Who can resist his adorable face and charming personality?!
Tucker loves being outside playing with the resident Springer and shepherd. He has to jump pretty high to reach the resident shepherd and they play “catch me” in the backyard, with Tucker running full speed! He loves all toys and is also learning what bubbles are about although the bubbles seem to confuse him when they burst! Tucker will give a turn of his head wondering, “Now, where did they just go?!”?
Bedtime goes extremely well for Tucker in his crate and he will readily run right in and sit and wait for his bedtime snack. Besides all his play time, treats and learning new commands, most of all Tucker loves to be tucked inside the arms of his foster mom.
Tucker will soon be neutered and ready to be tucked in his forever home! Are you ready for Tucker to charm his way into your heart?
Original:
Owning a Springer puppy requires time and attention. Illness sometimes prevents a responsible owner from being able to carry through with this commitment to a young pup. This happened to Tucker’s owner who became seriously ill and felt MAESSR could give Tucker the attention and direction that a young pup needs.
This sweet, little puppy loves to be tucked in his foster mom’s lap and cuddled! He knows that Springers are really lap dogs who love to be held so he will run to his foster mom to be picked up! He had the chance to meet a two year old toddler and did very well with her! Tucker also has made friends with all the resident and foster dogs in his foster home and does very well with all of them, respecting his place in the pack. Tucker also met the resident cats, but he wasn’t too sure of them initially. He would walk up close enough to stretch himself out to sniff them. As Tucker was walking around one cat, it meowed! Tucker stopped in his tracks, turned to look at the cat, and seemed amazed that it spoke! In the long run, Tucker was more content just to play with the cat’s toys! What a good boy!
Tucker loves to be outside and he quickly learned to go through the doggy door to get there, following the lead of the resident dogs. He had no problem going down the deck steps, but he cried for help to come back up until he discovered if he’d go in front of the steps he could go up instead of standing by the side of the stairs. Once off the deck, Tucker loves to run out in the yard with the resident dogs and play with them. He especially likes running under the resident shepherd’s body and weaving in and out of her legs!
When Tucker first discovered the baby pool full of water in the yard, he thought it was an awesome, huge water bowl. After watching the other dogs actually go in the pool, this brave pup gave it a try. Now Tucker is a water baby! He also loves his toys! He will run with a toy in his mouth, jump in the doggy bed, and roll all over the toy! Although Tucker is an active pup, he is also very mellow. When nap time comes, Tucker can be found either in the doggy bed or under the kitchen table.
Feeding time proves to be a favorite for Tucker and he is learning to go into his crate to eat his food. He first stands by his bowl to eat; then, he lies down in front of the bowl, savoring every morsel! He has no problem with being petted or having his bowl taken from him. Tucker does very well in the crate at night, first enjoying his bedtime snack and then arranging his blanket so it forms a partial tunnel. Then, he crawls inside and is set for the night! When his foster mom is at work, Tucker is also crated and he does very well.
Housetraining is going very well and Tucker runs out with the rest of the pack in the morning to do his duties! Good boy! Tucker’s foster mom is beginning to teach him basic commands and, if she could get him off her lap, she thinks he will do pretty well! “Sit” is coming along nicely as is “shake paw.” He responds to the word “no” also. MAESSR requires families adopting pups a year and younger to take them for obedience training and Tucker will be a good student! Tucker is not too sure of the leash yet and he prefers to lie down while trying to go for a walk with just his foster mom. If one of the resident dogs is accompanying them, then Tucker wants to go along to see where the resident dog is going.
Tucker is looking for a forever home that will cuddle him as much as play with him, and give him the guidance and training he needs to become a wonderful adult dog. He would do well with other dogs and cats and with children that are respectful of a young pup!
Stay tuned in for the next episode of Tucker!
