Updated 4/8/07: Sweet, sweet Trudy is proving to be more the quiet type in her foster home but with improving health, her foster dad is noticing an increase in her energy. She has started to bounce up and down at feeding time, always a good sign. The sores on her skin that she arrived with are almost all gone and she is no longer on antibiotics. She is continuing on thyroid medication and will be retested in another week to see if further adjustment of the dosage is needed. In short, Trudy continues to do well and is beginning to think about a forever family in the near future.
Original: Trudy is a sweetheart who came to MAESSR after having lived in two previous homes. After five years, her original owners no longer wanted her, so another family took her in. They soon found out that she had severe skin problems that required antibiotics and steroid treatment. This family relinquished her to MAESSR when they could no longer afford her medical care.
Trudy is a wonderful dog who is very laid back and loves to be petted. She gets along well with the resident springers in her foster home. Trudy is housetrained and has nice manners although she does beg just a little. Trudy will check out the counter when her food is being prepared. Any time food is involved, she gets very excited and she jumps for joy when it’s dinnertime!
Trudy thinks that the sofa looks very comfortable and she has tried it out a couple of times, pretending she belonged there and hoping her foster family would not notice. They did notice and as soon as they told her to get off, she did. Trudy is well behaved. She loves going on walks and in her excitement she does pull initially. Besides knowing her name, she responds well to the commands “sit,” “down,” “come.” Trudy’s a quick learner when new instructions are conveyed to her. She rides well in the car and falls comfortably asleep. Trudy does not like to be crated, however. Since she is such a well-behaved dog, her foster family is not pushing her on this matter.
When she came to her foster home, she had sores and scabs on her back and her hind legs. After a trip to the vet, Trudy came home with antibiotics and a medicated shampoo. She is easy to bathe and is fine when her foster parents groom her. Trudy likes the brushing although she is not too fond of the clipper. She tested positive for thyroid problems so she is receiving the inexpensive thyroid medication that she needs. After receiving her medicated baths, proper medication, and good nutrition, Trudy is improving overall. Her coat looks so much better and her skin is healing. Even some of her very bad sores are starting to clear up.
Her foster family finds Trudy a pleasure to have with them. If their household quota of two resident springers had not been already met, they would have adopted her themselves! Consider bringing this wonderful springer girl into your family!
