Trixie was a stray found in Virginia before she came to MAESSR. A year or less old, she is an affectionate, high energy puppy. She loves to chew, as do most puppies, but she can easily be re-directed with an appropriate chew toy. Quite the athletic girl, Trixie can clear even the tallest baby gate with ease. Obviously, she is a great candidate for agility. Trixie loves running in the fenced yard with the resident Springers, but she needs supervision as she will try to jump up on the fence. She is getting lots of practice with the “off” command and is learning quickly what behaviors are unacceptable for a well-mannered Springer!
Trixie is mostly housetrained. Her foster family makes sure she goes out immediately after eating or coming out of her crate. Trixie has not established a signal that she needs to go out, yet, but that will come with time. She is fine with a crate, but still likes a treat to make going in worthwhile. A smart little girl, Trixie knows sit, down, and off. Her foster parents work on the off command frequently as she enjoys trying to sit on the couch with her foster mom. With consistent training, Trixie will be a great companion as she is ready to learn.
Trixie’s foster family is working with her on improving her house manners, too. In her puppy exuberance, she will dart around and jump up on everything when she first comes into the house, but then she settles down. If there is something interesting on the kitchen counter, she will counter-surf, but she responds quickly to “no” and “off.” She has not bothered the trash can yet, but it does have a closed lid on it because of the resident Springers. When her family is out of the house, she is crated and at night she sleeps in her crate as well. Trixie rides nicely in the car but is restrained behind a safety gate to keep her from jumping over the seats.
A people-loving Springer, Trixie gets along well with adults and she does fine with older children. She will need some work to settle down for the younger ones although she has climbed up onto the lap of her foster mom’s five-year-old grandchild for some nice petting. Trixie was a good girl at the vet and when she is really tired, her foster mom can trim her paws. She has not visited the groomer yet but was good for a tub bath. Besides getting along with the two resident Springers, Trixie does well with the resident cat, too. This little girl is adorable and very loving.
Trixie needs an active forever home that will help her burn off her puppy energy daily and that will work with her on obedience training. They will be rewarded with a lifetime of happiness with this sweet girl.
