Original: “Very much the outdoor pup, Trigger loves to fetch balls, play with a rope and fetch a decoy with quail scent.”
Trigger came to MAESSR when he started getting “too big for his britches” in his Virginia home. Although he had always been very good with the two small children in the family, when he would not release stolen items and began to growl and snap, the parents became afraid one of the children would get hurt.
A trip to the vet to be neutered was Trigger’s first step in showing him that he was no longer in charge. He was started on an inexpensive supplement to help with anxiety and has been allowed to run, wrestle with his foster brothers and sisters, and exhaust himself every day. This combination has turned Trigger into a very nice young boy that just wants to have fun and be loved.
Trigger uses the dog door in his foster home and has good mealtime manners. His bowl and food can be touched when he is eating—good boy! He does counter-surf sometimes and jumps on people when excited. He thinks people furniture is very comfortable, but responds to “off.” Trigger sleeps on a rug next to his foster mom’s bed.
Very much the outdoor pup, Trigger loves to fetch balls, play with a rope and fetch a decoy with quail scent. He also enjoys swimming in the backyard creek and playing in a nearby marsh.
This smart young man has not had formal obedience training, but knows “sit,” “stay,” “come,” “down,” “shake,” and “speak.” He can be trusted off leash, but needs more practice to walk without pulling. Car rides make him a little nervous.
Right now Trigger is a spoiled teenage boy who needs guidance, structure, and love. MAESSR only places puppies in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. The decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. To reinforce this commitment, MAESSR requires all adopters of dogs a year old and younger to enroll their puppy in obedience classes within 60 days of adoption. MAESSR will be requiring two series of obedience classes to help Trigger establish the foundation needed to continue being a sweet lovebug.
Are you the person with the patience and time to lead this fantastic boy into adulthood? He is going to be worth every second of training time and will make you proud!
