Due to the terms of their lease, Trigger’s family in Maryland was not permitted to let him in the house and Trigger was forced to live outside, chained to a tree. Although he had a dog house for shelter, he was attacked by a coyote and was severely injured around his neck. Although a pen was built for him to keep the coyotes away, his owners worried about further attacks, so they relinquished Trigger to MAESSR for his own safety.
Trigger is a sweet, affectionate boy that loves spending time with his people and both resident and foster Springer sisters. To his foster dad’s chagrin, Trigger already outranks him in the attention he receives! Vail, another MAESSR foster, especially likes her new walking buddy. Trigger has that regal Springer prance that attracts admirers as he walks through the neighborhood with his foster parents and canine companions. Although there are no children in his foster home, he loves all the neighborhood kids, ages 6 and up.
Mr. Social and the Springer girls were a big hit when they went to watch a little league baseball game. He was very good in the car, looking out the window and then falling asleep. Once he got to the ballgame, Trigger was very well behaved, greeting all with a smile and a lick. He did especially well with the little kids and adults petting him. If this is any indication, Trigger should do well in a house with children and lots of activity. He is a lover boy!
Squirrels, rabbits, and the neighborhood cats do excite Trigger and he will jump and pull when he sees them on his walks. His foster parents are working on better focus, but he probably just enjoys the thrill of the chase.
Trigger is both housetrained and crate trained and he has only marked once in his foster home. When his foster parents are not home, Trigger is crated, not because he is not trusted, but because he is intact and he tries to mount the female Springers. After he is neutered, he should calm down more and his foster mom thinks he will be fine loose in the house. He loves water and will seek it out in the bathroom tub or toilet if not watched. Trigger’s nose will also lead him to peek up on the counter, but he responds well to “down†and has learned very quickly that counter surfing is not appropriate. He also know the commands “sit,†“come,†and “shhhhh.†Trigger has no food aggression and is generally well behaved.
Trigger’s wounds from his coyote attack are healing nicely and his fur is growing back in. He will have a re-check at the vet and then will be neutered.
Watch for more on Trigger! He is a real charmer with a great personality!
