Trey came into MAESSR’s care because his owner became seriously ill and could no longer care for his dogs. Trey was apparently a close couch companion for his owner. He was in his foster home about a half an hour before he curled up on the sofa and went to sleep! He has been sleeping on a dog bed next to his foster parents’ bed. They admit to waking and finding Trey curled up on the end of their bed sound asleep more than once. They find him to be a very loving dog who wants to be close to his people at all times.
Trey is house broken and lets his foster family know when he needs to go out. They are crate training him and feel he is getting better each day. He is not a counter surfer or chewer, but he will check out the trash. His foster family is working on leash training and basic obedience with him. He came with several of his own toys, and, they are encouraging him to play, but so far, he hasn’t shown too much interest. He has a fenced yard to run in, but is sneaky and adept at slipping through a gate. And he reportedly does like a good chase!
When meeting children and adults, Trey does great. He sniffs to get acquainted and wants to be petted, but he does not jump on people. He hasn’t met toddlers yet. When meeting the dog next door, Trey will bark and growl through the fence, but is wagging his tail at the same time. When leashed and meeting the same dog, Trey is OK. He hasn’t met cats at his foster home, but he lived with them in his previous home. Trey remains very cautious about some normal home activities, like vacuuming and sawing. But, with more time in his foster home, this will likely diminish.
While Trey will race from room to room if he loses sight of a foster parent, once they are found, he is quite content to curl up beside them and be a couch potato. He needs a family who will enjoy that kind of opportunity as much as he does. Is that you?
