Update 09/16/10:
Tootsie’s foster mom reports that much like the rest of us, Tootsie didn’t care for the hot, sticky weather which made her a bit cranky! She would occasionally grumble at the other dogs and definitely did not want her foster mom to groom her.
Now that the cooler weather has come, Tootsie is so much more comfortable. She was taken for a spa day at the groomer and was well behaved. She now feels comfortable and looks fantastic!
Tootsie’s foster home now has fewer dogs, and just having a little more personal space has helped Tootsie to be much happier. Tootsie would probably enjoy being a family’s only dog or living with another low-key dog.
An occasional stumble now and then has Tootsie’s foster mom keeping an eye on her rear legs which appear to be a little weak. Otherwise, Tootsie continues to love her walks and car rides.
Tootsie’s foster family is really enjoying this sweet senior! Would you open your hearts and home to this beautiful girl?
Update 07/30/10:
Tootsie continues to be a super easy-going dog in her foster home. She has shown herself to be very gentle with people of all ages. Although she has visited with kids as young as two, it is important that her forever family supervise her interaction with young children to be certain that they aren’t pulling or poking her.
While she still doesn’t really pick up any toys and play, Tootsie gets very excited when it is time to go for a drive in the car or a walk. In fact, when her foster mom takes her for walks around the block, her feline foster brother walks along with them and Tootsie takes it all in stride. What a cute sight!
Besides getting along with cats, Tootsie also has a good disposition with the other dogs in her foster home. She has been a little irritable of late when she has food around them, but the summertime heat and a full house are likely contributors to this crankiness. Still, Tootsie would probably be happiest with private dining quarters if there is another dog in her forever home.
Fearless around all manner of noisy things, Tootsie has faced everything from the vacuum cleaner to thunder and fireworks with a calm attitude. Although she isn’t too excited when her foster mom pulls out the clippers for grooming, Tootsie is very well behaved for her bath.
Tootsie would love to find a home where she could live as an only dog or with one other laid-back canine. She gets around just fine and has great stamina for walks – a young 11 year old! This gorgeous girl is looking for a family ready to embrace her relaxed spirit and enthusiasm for life. Could that family be yours?
Update 06/22/10:
Tootsie is a lovely seasoned Springer with all good things going for her. She loves to walk on a leash and has gone a full two miles without slowing down. She can navigate stairs with ease. Car rides are also lots of fun with Tootsie; she is a great passenger. She gets very bouncy and excited when she knows a walk or car ride is about to happen.
This spirited and frisky girl has great house manners. She doesn’t counter surf or trash pick but loves to hang in the kitchen when food is being prepared. She has full run of the house and is not destructive….good girl! She attends to her business outside and has not had accidents.
Tootsie is in overall good health. Her ears must be kept clean and dry to avoid scratching, irritation and infection. Her teeth are whitening up by the continual use of dental biscuits. Her vision and hearing are very good for an 11 year old. Her beautiful black and white bench coat is thick and shiny.
She has that wonderful Springer smile and typical wiggly butt. She is good with people of all ages. Tootsie gets along with cats in her foster home. She would prefer the company of dogs closer to her age and activity level. She’s an ever-so-easy-to-live-with senior who would like to keep moderately active and fully engaged with her family. She will uplift spirits and bring genuine companionship to all around her.
Original:
When Tootsie’s Maryland owner developed health problems and could no longer properly care for her, she relinquished Tootsie to MAESSR.
This pretty senior Springer is housebroken although she does not seem to signal her need to go out. She and the resident dogs are taken out at regular intervals to relieve themselves, so Tootsie has had no accidents in the house. Since she has been so trustworthy in the house, her foster family has had no need to crate her and Tootsie has free run of the house when they are gone.
Tootsie is a Velcro Springer who loves to be with her people. She is calm inside the house and does not try to get up on the furniture. At bed time, Tootsie makes herself comfortable on the floor by the bed. Although there is no counter-surfing with this senior, she will very politely wait for food to drop in the kitchen. To paraphrase Alexander Pope: “Hope springs eternal in the [Springer] breast” when it comes to food!
Even though she is generally calm in the house, Tootsie gets very excited when it’s time to go for a walk. She walks nicely on the leash and obviously enjoys her outings. Her foster family has only had Tootsie in the car once and she was very good then. At this point, Tootsie has not played with toys or chewed any bones, but she will guard her bone if another dog is near.
Watch for more on Tootsie after she has been to the vet and as her personality opens further in foster care.
