Original: “Tony went everywhere with his owner and absolutely loves riding in the car!”
A beautiful Jersey boy, Tony came to MAESSR when his owner’s wife was diagnosed with a long-term illness and hospitalized. With Tony’s best interests in mind, he reached out to MAESSR to find his pal a new forever home.
Tony went everywhere with his owner and absolutely loves riding in the Car! A typical Springer, he has a joyful personality and wants to be with his foster parents wherever they are. He has been respectful of the two resident senior spaniels but can be protective of any toys he’s playing with. He’ll grumble if one of the other dogs gets too close to the toy, but there has been no escalation. Tony is particularly fond of anything that squeaks but will chase a ball, frisbee, or a stick outside. The 10-year old resident will play with him; they are still learning each other’s boundaries. The 15-year old senior is just interested in following Tony around; he wants to play but that’s a no-go. He does not guard his food and will wait until the elder dog finishes eating before approaching. How respectful of his elders! It’s unknown how Tony would react to cats, but the resident parrot has been ignored.
While in his foster parents’ care, Tony has not met any young children; he has met older children at the local park but showed no more interest in them than he does with adults. He will bark at strangers and other dogs in the park, but if they approach slowly, he will greet them happily.
Tony has been groomed regularly and has no issues having his ears or feet touched. He’ll line up with the other dogs to be brushed and seems to enjoy the attention. He is housetrained and will go to the door if he needs to go out. During his foster parents’ short trips to the store, Tony has been allowed run of the house with the two resident canines. He doesn’t seem to have any anxiety about being left behind. However, he will jump on the couch if no one is looking but will jump right off with a stern “off!”
Tony is excellent at recall and will immediately come when called. He knows “sit,” “paw,” and “wait.” He’s currently working on “down.” Because of his tendency to lunge after a squirrel on daily walks, his foster mom started using a gentle leader in conjunction with his usual leash and collar. He’s doing very well with this system.
