Update 02/11/2016: “He’s a mellow guy who seems to get along with everyone whether they have two feet or four.”
Tobie has been with his foster family for almost two months, and he feels like a full-fledged member. He and his foster sister are inseparable. When they are not playing together, they are sleeping side by side.
The new boy’s house manners are improving; he has learned that he must sit before eating but, if he thinks he can sneak a forbidden treat, he will take advantage! He and his foster sister are alike in this regard. Was he the teacher or the student, or, are they both just typical Springers?
Mr. T continues to have a gurgling stomach, but his digestive problems are better than when he first came to his foster home. His vet recommended a probiotic and his stomach seems a bit quieter. He has gained some weight…appetite is never a problem.
Tobie is now looking for his furever home. He’s a mellow guy who seems to get along with everyone whether they have two feet or four. He loves his people, but would appreciate a doggie friend or two with whom to play, sleep and counter-surf!!
Update 01/16/2016: “When it comes to canine companionship, Tobie and his foster sister are inseparable, earning the nicknames ‘Thing One’ and ‘Thing Two.’”
Tobie had been experiencing some minor problems with his digestive tract which resulted in some gurgling, gas, and soft stool. His foster dad thought it might be due to the roundworms and gave him some over the counter medication and a probiotic. Now that he’s cleared of his roundworms, his intestinal tract seems to be doing just fine. A consistent diet of high quality food has certainly helped Tobie, too. He’s now in excellent health!
This welcome house guest is settling into the rhythms of his foster home. He and the resident Springer have been allowed free roam of the house when the humans are away without incident. His foster family is just careful not to leave any food out as Tobie has quite the reach for a little guy! An eight hour work day is probably stretching the limits of how long Tobie can “hold it.” This could change now that he’s feeling better and getting used to his new routine.
Tobie has learned to sit before eating his meal. When playing fetch, he will drop the ball or stick at his human’s feet every time. What a smart boy! When it comes to canine companionship, Tobie and his foster sister are inseparable, earning the nicknames “Thing One” and “Thing Two.” This sweet boy is a joy who loves people and canine buddies.
Ask about Tobie…he’ll make a wonderful addition to most any home.
Original: “Whatever Tobie has, the resident pup wants… and he gives it over to her with only a little playful tug-of-war.”
When Tobie’s human dad in Pennsylvania passed away, he was kept outside for a period of time before being taken to a local shelter. He was very scared in the shelter and luckily MAESSR was able to start him on a new beginning.
After one day of being very fearful in his new home, Tobie quickly became part of the family. He is a total “love bug” who wants to be as close to his humans as possible. He is very alert and quite active for a 9-year-old. He gets along wonderfully with the resident Springer, all of the cats, and all of the human guests he encounters in his foster home.
Having been relegated to the outdoors in his previous situation, Tobie wasn’t sure how to ask to go out. Pacing about is a signal that he would like to take care of some business. He seems to be learning from the resident pup that standing at the door will earn him a trip outside. He loves his crate and will go in on his own; sometimes he’s reluctant to come out. While his foster family is gone, his crate is his place of safety, but he sleeps at night in their bedroom next to his canine foster sister.
Tobie is working on his house manners. Counter-surfing is a favorite activity, and he will jump up on a human when he’s excited. While the family is eating, he will put his head in a lap hoping for a treat. After a week of being ignored, he is now more willing to just lie on the floor like his foster sister. He will bump the trash can with his nose, but has never knocked it over. Tobie does not chew inappropriately or dig.
The only command Tobie knows for sure is “sit,” but he will be working on others. He is excellent in the car and on a leash. There’s no problem giving Tobie’s fur a good brushing, and he allows his foster dad to clean his ears without complaining too much. He was fine with the veterinarian.
When it comes to playing, Tobie loves to fetch and will return a tennis ball or stick. He will keep playing this game long after his foster sister has tired of it. Inside, he loves a tennis ball or just about anything he can carry around. Whatever Tobie has, the resident pup wants… and he gives it over to her with only a little playful tug-of-war. They play more and more as they become comfortable with one another.
Meal time is a major event! Tobie is working on sitting before eating without lunging for his food. He lets his foster dad pick up his bowl while he is eating, but if a cat walks in the vicinity he barks a warning. He has not reacted to the resident dog, and they eat about three feet apart from one another. Tobie needs to put on several pounds; since he has a great appetite, that shouldn’t be a problem.
Reportedly Tobie has always had a canine companion and he is wonderful with other animals. His forever home ideally would include some four-legged friends. He would love to be in a family where he can run outside and chase tennis balls. And, most of all, he would love snuggling with his human companions.
