After being given up by a family who just didn’t want him anymore, Tippy was pulled from a shelter in West Virginia where he was going to be put down. After a lot of effort on the part of some committed volunteers, Tippy was transported to his foster home.
Here is what his foster mom had to say on his first night:
Just a brief note to let you all know that Tippy is home with me. Thanks very much to Joseph and Betty for their part in helping to transport him. He seems to be a very loving dog. He is very curious and has spent much of the evening looking at everything. Then he comes over to the sofa to be petted. He has already met my cat, Max. They spent several minutes sniffing each other. Then Max rolled over and grabbed Tippy’s head with his front feet (something Max likes to do when he plays with my dogs). Tippy was fine with it and just continued to sniff some more. It is fairly late, so I will introduce him to my other dogs tomorrow afternoon when I get home to school. I will keep you updated. I cannot believe that someone could throw away such a sweet and loving dog.
Tippy is doing very well in foster care. He is great around cats and other dogs. He has some obedience training and has yet to meet a stranger! He just greats everyone by leaning his head against their legs so he can be petted. He barks a little when you get ready to feed him, but he soon stops. He is beginning to learn no bark. And he can be rather insistent about those pats on the head, but, hey, there are much worse things than that!
Update: June 27, 2001:
Tippy is being returned to rescue through no fault of his own. The other dog in his adoptive home has been beating up on Tippy. I guess he has decided that he does not want another dog in the house. Anyway, poor Tippy is living in terror of this dog. We are bringing him back, and he is now available for adoption. This is a wonderful older dog who would make someone a great pet.
