When Tippy’s New Jersey family had to radically downsize, MAESSR was tearfully contacted to see about finding new homes for Tippy and her twelve year old mom, Zoey.
Completely housetrained, Tippy will give a little whimper near the door when she needs to go out. In her former life, she used a doggie door. She is not crate trained, but, since this older gal doesn’t chew, counter-surf, jump up on people or get into any trouble, she’s just gated away from the resident dogs when her foster folks are away and during feedings (since she needs to lose some pounds, and the residents are picky eaters). At night, Tippy sleeps under the kitchen table on a small bed although, in her original home, she was able to sleep with the owners. If invited up, she’ll jump on the couch to watch TV, but knows “off” without complaining.
This senior is mellow in the house and follows any of the humans around. While her foster mom works, she can usually be found on a cushion under the desk or on her bed near the window with a view of the back yard. Though not allowed off leash outside of the fenced yard, reportedly she’s fine and was trusted in her former home. Since Tippy likes to be with her people, this is most likely true.
Miss T4 is decent on leash, after initially dancing around a bit when it is first clipped on. She’s been fine with dogs she’s met on leash, though not openly friendly as some dogs. Since the resident dog usually howls if not included on walks, she and Tippy go out much of the time in tandem. This love doesn’t really play with toys or the resident dogs, but is starting to be interested when the resident hound rushes off to the far side of the fenced yard after critters, real or imagined. She will drink out of the baby pool in the back yard but since she so far hasn’t waded in, she probably isn’t that interested in swimming. Tippy is active enough that with a few walks a day and a reasonable amount of food, she’ll soon drop the extra pounds.
Tippy knows “sit,” “down,” and “give paw.” In the car, she stays put where placed, usually napping before long. Reportedly good at the groomers and with having her nails clipped and ears cleaned, she really does enjoy brushing or attention.
This sweet girl would love a home of her own where she could bond with as many humans as are around. She lived her whole life with her mother but is adapting well to being the only Springer around the place. In her foster home, she seems more comfortable with female dogs than with males. Tippy does have a fun trick. She can be standing in mellow mode and if a human starts sweet talking her, she’ll do the Springer grin and start wagging her whole butt. What a joy she’ll be for some lucky family this summer!!
