Update 10/07/12:
The latest on Tippy is in from his foster family and is all great news. Here goes……..Tippy was receiving treatment for a yeast infection in his ears, but a visit to the vet pronounced him healthy and infection-free. So now he’s in tip-top health!
Recently Tippy spent his first day at a doggie day care along with his foster family’s Springer. The day care staff has had the pleasure of hosting a number of the family’s MAESSR fosters in the past, and they reported that Tippy did very well with his experience. Good boy, Tippy!
Although Tippy has not been exposed to any children, he has had the opportunity to meet a number of new adults and other dogs while in foster care. He has been very gracious in meeting all of them. When his foster family offers to play with Tippy, he still reacts with great enthusiasm…….but he’s still working on the concept of letting them have the ball back after he chases it! While he loves to follow family members around, Tippy does not insist that they include highly physical activity for him.
If you’re looking for an easy going guy, look no further than Tippy!
Original:
Tippy came to MAESSR from another Springer Spaniel rescue group in Tennessee with little known about his background. The volunteers who dealt with him described him as having great house manners, good with people, and a little standoffish at first with other dogs.
Considering he has only been with his foster family for a short time, Tippy has adapted well to his new surroundings. He gets along well with the resident Springer Spaniel, and loves lying next to his foster parents! Tippy does get excited and wants to play with them, but he does not seem to know exactly what he should do with a ball when they encourage him to play. His favorite activity, so far, has been spending time outside with his foster dad enjoying the beautiful fall weather. Tippy has played a little with the resident ESS but tends to get a little rough, which is followed by his playmate quickly scolding him, which tends to end the fun.
Tippy loves his thirty minute morning walks with his foster family and house ESS. He does well on a restraint collar and is only slightly distracted by cats and squirrels he sees along the way! An intelligent, gentle guy with a low to moderate energy level, Tippy is willing to please his people. Even when he is excited to see them, Tippy does not jump on them. Good boy! He has been learning to sit before going outside and has quickly found out that he will get his food faster with a quick sit. Tippy does not have an issue with barking but will chime in when he feels that the resident ESS needs some support!
During the day, Tippy has the run of the house and at night, he sleeps in a dog bed on the floor of the master bedroom. With his good house manners, he has not been seen to counter-surf or get into the trash. He does well on car rides and has no problem with taking a bath or getting blow dried with a hair dryer.
Tippy is a guy who will do well with a family who likes to take one or two walks a day with their pet, and wants a friendly, low-energy dog who likes being with people.
