Tinsel, named as she was originally purchased as a Christmas gift, was surrendered to MAESSR because the Virginia owner’s neighbors had two young sons who frequently had friends over to play soccer in their yard. All this commotion and the young boys made Tinsel nervous. Her owner felt Tinsel would be happier without so many young children next door.
Tinsel is a very sweet, loving and high energy dog who is excellent with dogs of all sizes—she will often run to greet them!
This love is housetrained, but not crate trained. She does not have issues with noises or storms but will bark to alert– she liked to lie in the front window of the home and bark if someone turned into the driveway or approached the home. She is not a digger or a chewer and understands which toys belong to the dogs—good girl! She does beg for food, but offers more of the “soulful Springer look” than active begging. Tinsel will counter-surf but gets down as soon as she is told. She does jump up in greeting—this gal just can’t contain her excitement!
MAESSR’s new youngster has never had any formal obedience training. The only commands she responds to are “sit,” “down,” and “go to your bed.” She does not do well on leashed walks because she pulls like crazy. She would probably benefit from basic obedience classes. But, Tinsel is good in the car and good having her ears and feet handled. The previous owners had a pond on the property and Tinsel just loved to be in the water. She also enjoyed her frequent baths (to remove pond scum).
Tinsel was experiencing anxiety and according to her owner had always been anxious. She was started on a mild anxiety medication that has made her a much happier girl. She is a real sweetie that loves attention and needs her fair share of exercise. In the past, she ran alongside a slow moving golf cart until she was worn out!
Tinsel is looking for an adult only home, might like the company of another dog, would love a place to swim, and definitely wants some folks to call her own. Would you like to welcome this lively young lady into your home?
