Original: “The outside world is just so exciting with much to explore and going on an energetic walk or hike is an absolute treat to her.”
Tillie came to MAESSR when her elderly New Jersey owners realized that they just couldn’t provide her with the best environment to satisfy her zest for life and young energy. This pretty girl was well-loved and has a sweet disposition though she is still very green in training as she didn’t get out and about much.
In her foster home, Tillie is super excited to explore the world, meet new people and dogs, and smell all the smells. Tillie is situationally housetrained, still signals with a bell or a scratch at the closest door, and is learning how to go outside in a fenced yard without a bathroom escort. She loves company! She has a new-found love of a fenced yard so she can run and play. She will often get distracted by the fun and will need some time to settle down and do her business.
Crate trained, Tillie will easily go in her crate at bedtime but will cry if she is in a room alone or hears that others are up and about and she may be missing out on something exciting. Her crate is currently in her human foster sibling’s bedroom and she LOVES that! She would love it even better if she got to sleep up on the bed with her! When left for an extended period of time, Tillie is crated but has done well loose with the other family dogs for shorter periods.
Tillie is a very social dog and is not keen on being alone. She would much rather be in the thick of things and follow around a human and pack of other dogs. She has been around children as young as 5 but needs reminders how to calmly greet smaller children and frequent reminders during play so she doesn’t bowl them over with her excitement. She enjoys spending time with her human foster siblings that are 7 and 12 years old as they like to play with her! She loves other dogs and having a playmate is the “bestest” thing ever in her mind! She has a lot of puppy exuberance so can be overwhelming at first to more reserved dogs though she is pretty submissive when they correct her behavior. Tillie is unknown with cats.
Tillie is still very much a silly puppy. She loves to cuddle, flop over for belly rubs, romp with the resident dogs, and play with toys. She will cuddle with her person or curl up on a comfy chair but it is usually short lived and a prelude to play time. Chewing sticks and playing keep away with the other dogs is a favorite pastime. She can typically be found with a collection of toys spread around her as she needs variety to keep her from getting bored.
This newbie is learning proper house manners and will need consistency with training. She is super smart and learns quickly. Her foster brother showed her once how to open doors and now she likes to explore the closets. She still needs some reminders of polite behavior and, if bored, she looks for something to turn into a toy, something to sniff, or a door to open and explore.
She does pull on a leash and is working on loose leash walking. The outside world is just so exciting with much to explore and going on an energetic walk or hike is an absolute treat to her. Please note that MAESSR will require her adoptive family to take her through a series of obedience classes within 90 days of adoption. MAESSR only places puppies – even older ones – in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience. MAESSR believes the decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. Tillie will be an excellent pupil.
Tillie is good in the car and will settle quickly. She rides well with just a tether for safety. She enjoyed the vet as it was just more people to meet and say hello to. Tillie is fed in the kitchen with the other dogs in her own separate corner. She enjoys meals thoroughly and will not hesitate to go investigate the other bowls to make sure everything got eaten though she will back off when the resident dogs correct this behavior.
Tillie LOVES the water. She will drink it, roll in it, swim in it, run through or just stand under it. She does not like to be left out of shower time and will stand guard at the door in case there is an opportunity to jump inside!
Is your family ready for this precious bundle of joy? Tillie’s ready for you!
