Original: Tillie’s full registered name fits her to a “T”: Tillie Sugarcakes. This sweet, affectionate little girl came into rescue when a good Samaritan convinced an elderly owner that life on the end of a chain was not a life at all for a dog. After seeing to Tillie’s health care and cleaning her up, this same good Samaritan surrendered Tillie to MAESSR. Isn’t she a pretty pup now!
A neglected childhood has not dampened Tillie’s cheerful outlook on life. She puts both her full tail and whole butt into a big wiggling welcome. She is a little shy around new people and dogs at first but quickly warms to their attention. On a few occasions, she has had some submissive urination, but this should pass as she gets older and becomes more confident in a forever home. She adored attending an office cookout with her foster family and was very gentle with an attending toddler. During her first trip to the dog park, she checked out the scene from the safety of her foster mom’s legs before launching herself full tilt into a long game of chase.
Tillie appears to be housebroken, although she may not have spent much time in a house. She cocks her head at new sounds and then comes to investigate. Her obedience training has been limited. She knows “sit” and her foster parents are working on her leash manners. She will sit quietly to have her leash put on, but she does pull and she would give a whole box of dog treats to be allowed to chase squirrels!
Tillie spends several hours in a crate during the workday but has the run of the house when her family is home. At night she sleeps quietly and contentedly upstairs on her own bed. She does not countersurf or get into trash. She shows no food or toy aggression and her foster family can take objects out of her mouth with ease.
