Teddy was surrendered to MAESSR because of his escalating resource guarding. His Pennsylvania owner had tried everything he could think of to work with Ted, but in the end felt he would be better going to MAESSR for evaluation and further training.
Teddy is very loving and likes to cuddle; he is crate trained and housetrained. This youngster loves to play with toys and is good with the other dogs in his foster home. He is fairly good with basic commands—“sit,” “down,” “stay,” “come,” and “paw.” He has not counter-surfed or trash dived in his foster home—good boy!!! He was also good at his vet appointment. Teddy was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection and the course of antibiotics has now been completed. He is also now benefiting from medication from anxiety which he will continue after adoption.
But, Teddy is a wild and crazy young Springer boy. He is filled with energy and needs A LOT of exercise. He does pull on the leash and is best walking on a harness for now. While he will resource guard food and toys occasionally, he is making great progress with being redirected in these situations.
MAESSR only places puppies in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience, and they do chew on things! The decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. To reinforce this commitment, MAESSR requires all adopters of dogs one year old and younger to enroll their puppy in obedience classes within 60 days of adoption.
This love will be a wonderful, lively companion for a family who can fulfill his energy and exercise needs. Watch for updates as Teddy’s training progresses. It’s spring, spring, Springer time!!
