Update 05/25/10:
Tex remains the puppy ringleader in his foster home. He is a daring little boy who can be fearless at times. He enjoys investigating everything and, as with young puppies, all new things enter his mouth. He is a chewer and needs to be supervised to ensure that nothing inappropriate ends up being a snack!
He particularly enjoys playing tug with his brother Cash. Whenever he is victorious, Tex promptly begins chewing on his winnings. He can also be fearless when it comes to the big Springer girls in his foster home. If they have a bone that he wants, he will bark at them in hopes that they will let him have it. At times, the girls will correct him, letting him know that his behavior is not allowed. Tex accepts these corrections in stride and goes off in search of other adventures. He has also joined the big dogs at doggy daycare. He does very well in this setting and is learning his puppy manners.
Being a young lad, his house training is a work in progress. Tex has few accidents in the house with frequent trips outside to eliminate. As soon as he is taken outside, he will take care of business. He is also learning basic commands such as “sit” and “down.” Toooooo cute!!
Though in overall good health, Tex did test slightly anemic and is receiving a supplement to correct this problem. He is a very good boy when taking it and should be ready for neutering soon.
Tex would love to mosey on into a new home very soon. Ready for a new partner?

The story of Mercy and her eight pups from Tennessee could read like a country western classic sung by any artist from the Country Music Hall of Fame except that, unlike many country ballads, this song has a happy ending with Mercy and her little ones becoming MAESSR dogs! It almost did not end that way. When a MAESSR volunteer went to the shelter to get them and move them to a vet to be boarded, Mercy had just been adopted to a couple and the staff was getting ready to euthanize the puppies! Our volunteer quickly went out and talked to the couple and they returned Mercy so MAESSR could find loving forever homes for both her and the eight puppies.
So, just as Nashville has its Country Music Hall of Fame so MAESSR has its own Springer stars from Tennessee! They include mom Mercy and her boys Cash (Johnny) and Tex (Ritter) and her six girls Presley (Elvis), Marty (Robbins), EmmyLou (Harris), Minnie (Pearl), Patsy (Cline), and Tammy (Wynette).
These newest MAESSR Hall of Famers are now happily in their foster homes and soon will be beloved members of their forever families.
Tex is an outgoing puppy who is not afraid to try new things. He is a confident and independent boy who enjoys investigating things no matter where he is. He is very vocal in letting his foster mom know when there is something that he wants. When not investigating, he enjoys cuddle time and loves to give puppy kisses.
Watch for updates on Tex as he continues to grow and thrive in foster care. He may be just the pup for you and you’ll be whispering in his little ear: “Have I Told You Lately that I Love You?”
