Update 09/27/2019: “The last thing he wants is to be separated from his people!”
Sweet Teddy was returned to MAESSR by his adopters because they were fearful that he might be destructive when they were gone during the work day. He had jumped up on a window sill to see where his new parents had gone and he knocked over a lamp in the process.
Teddy went back to his same foster home where his mom was convinced that he didn’t have separation anxiety. For the next weeks, she used positive reinforcement to acclimate him to being crated. Inside his crate he is given a bone to keep him busy during the work day. With time Teddy realized the crate was a nice place where he would get treats and quietly nap. He would even enter his open crate for a snooze when his foster parents were home.
Another hurdle that Teddy needed to pass to increase his adoptability was that of cats. He moved to a foster family on a quiet Virginia farm that had both indoor and outdoor cats to meet. Teddy was a perfect gentleman with all, ignoring them completely.
Teddy loves being near his foster family and has been off-leash outside with them with no problem. The last thing he wants is to be separated from his people! When they go out, Teddy is crated and goes in willingly with his chew bone. At night he loves to sleep with his people in their bed. Life is good with your people to snuggle with.
Walks with Teddy are very pleasant; he does not pull when leashed. He is friendly when meeting people and dogs on walks and does not jump up. He listens and responds promptly to “come” and “sit.” What a good boy!
This young Springer mix would love nothing more than being adopted into a family with another dog for companionship and doting parents who are home most of the time.
Update 06/26/2019: “After working with him, his foster mom feels that he would be best placed with another dog for companionship.”
Teddy continues to be such a sweet boy in his foster home. After working with him, his foster mom feels that he would be best placed with another dog for companionship. He just seems to be more comfortable with another dog around.
Teddy is a super nice boy but is a little shy until he gets to know someone. A family with the time, patience, and love to help him blossom will be rewarded with a wonderful friend.
Original: “Teddy is loving the change to being a house dog and soon will be ready to have his very own house and home.”
Brothers Teddy and Jasper are former barn dogs (and/or breeder dogs) who made their way to a rescue in Pennsylvania. MAESSR was asked for help, and, of course, said yes to these sweet, very shy boys.
The goal originally was to keep them together for placement. Once they had been in the foster home for a while, it was obvious they were holding each other back. So, the decision was made to separate them. Both have done very well with the separation.
Teddy was extremely anxious and worried about everything. He was initially started on a supplement to help with his anxiety and when that was not enough he was given a medication for anxiety. It has really helped. His adoptive family will have to agree to keep him on this medication for a minimum of six months after adoption to help with the transition.
Teddy is housetrained, does not counter-surf, and walks well on a leash. What a good boy!! He is a little anxious in the car, but practice is making that better.
Teddy is loving the change to being a house dog and soon will be ready to have his very own house and home. Will it be with you?
