Ted came to MAESSR when his Pennsylvania owners realized a young, active, Springer puppy wasn’t the dog best suited for their lifestyle. Ted is now living with eight other dogs of various ages and is adjusting very well. He plays nicely with other dogs in his foster home and he and one of his foster sisters love to wrestle and mouth one another’s faces. Ted is very good around his food bowl but will try and sneak some extra from the other dogs’ bowls if they are not finished eating before him. He also thinks that all the treats should be his!
At just six months old, Ted is a big boy and he’s likely to be a big Springer. His gorgeous liver coat is so dark and rich looking that it almost seems black. Ted loves to take walks in the morning and after pulling for a few minutes, settles into a nicely paced walk. He is completely housebroken and is left alone for four hours at a time during the day and makes it overnight with no problems. Ted is very good about riding in the car and did well at his vet visit. He was a true wiggly butt while getting his check up.
His foster family is helping Ted learn proper Springer manners like not mouthing or jumping up on people. He already knows the commands of sit, down, and no. MAESSR requires all families adopting dogs under one year old to take training classes with their new Springer. This will help reinforce the good manners Ted is learning in his foster home and help him bond with his new family.
Ted’s previous owners crated him during the day and at night, but in his foster home Ted has done extremely well with free reign. Don’t be surprised if Ted crawls underneath the bed to sleep, but comes up for a visit every once in a while during the night!
Your typical Velcro Springer boy, Ted is usually not more than a few steps from his person. He is sweet, playful, and very loving. Ted loves children but in his puppy exuberance, he may knock them down trying to say hello. With training and time, this should improve. Since he loves to play, he would do very well if his forever family has another dog who shares his enthusiasm for playtime. Would you like to add this playful pup to your pack?
