Update 08/30/08:
Teardrop came through his neutering procedure very well and he was a good boy at the vet’s office. Within a few days he will be back to normal. While he is recuperating, he is dreaming about his forever family.
Tee’s looking for a forever home where the family loves to be out there interacting with the dogs. His wish list includes another dog – probably a female who is not too bossy. Also, he’d like to go to obedience training with his new family, but they shouldn’t mind if he gets on the furniture. A boy can’t be totally perfect, you know.
Can your family make Teardrop’s wishes come true?
Original:
Teardrop and his sister Lilly came to MAESSR when their Pennsylvania owner didn’t have the time to care for them. Teardrop is settling nicely in his foster home with another one year old male Springer, a five year old female Springer, and two human kids who are nine and eleven.
Teardrop is a very handsome boy with pretty markings. His soft and silky coat will require regular grooming. At fifty pounds, he is strong and extremely agile, making him a good candidate for agility. Tee – as he is affectionately called by his foster family – has a very sweet personality and shows no aggression to people or dogs. He carries a toy in his mouth always. Contrary to his name, Tee is a very happy-go-lucky fellow who just wants a family who will have lots of time to train and love, love, love him.
Teardrop gets along nicely with the two resident Springers in his foster home. When he met them, he came on a little strong with mounting but was quickly corrected by the dogs and he respected that. Teardrop plays tug and runs with them. He seems to prefer the female who is a little more laid back. He would most likely do best with a fellow canine for companionship in his forever home.
Teardrop hasn’t yet been given a lot of training and direction in his young life. He knows sit and down and he usually will come but needs some additional work. He will snuggle on your sofa, sleep in your bed and takes counter-surfing to an Olympic level. Tee can easily go from floor to all four paws on the counter in one second flat! His foster family is working on correcting this behavior. Teardrop could also easily jump a fence or gate. His foster mom does not let him go out into the yard without supervision. She feels Teardrop would be more likely to jump to get TO his people, not away, since he is very tightly bonded.
Like many Springers, Teardrop is extremely attached to his people. He is generally never more than an arm’s length from his foster mom. He naps by her feet, loves to cuddle and wakes her in the morning with kisses. He has some mild separation distress; he’s not happy about his people leaving. Teardrop was crated for the first few days at his foster home but crating clearly made him more distressed. He is now given free run of the home with the resident dogs, and doors are closed to places he’s not to go. He spends his time looking out the window until his people get back. He was recently started on a mild anxiety drug to help him relax. Most likely, he will just need to stay on this medication through his transition to life with his new family.
Teardrop is a very pleasant fellow to have around the house. He’s housebroken, but did have a marking episode when he first came. After being corrected, he hasn’t attempted that again. He’s more of a moderate activity level dog who likes to have you outside with him. He’s fairly good on leash, loves to play fetch, and adores swimming. He checks the pool every day to see if he can go in. Teardrop doesn’t beg, rides nicely in the car, doesn’t jump up on people and isn’t chewing inappropriate items. He does always have something in his mouth and empties the canine toy box daily leaving toys scattered around the house. His previous owner reported that he was a jogging companion. Teardrop does alert bark when he hears something. His foster mom is teaching him to go to his place and wait when he begins this behavior.
This happy boy wants nothing more than someone to love. Teardrop will be a great addition to the right family.
