Original: Taz came to MAESSR as an owner relinquishment from Virginia. His single mom very sadly had to give him up because her fiance is severely allergic to dogs and will be coming home from Afghanistan soon. A good boy with overall nice house manners, Taz has never gotten into trash, but has put his front paws on the countertop a couple of times. He responds quickly to NO! The only furniture he tries to get on is the bed because he was allowed to sleep there in his former home. He has learned quickly that this is not allowed in his foster home. Taz is housebroken and will signal to go outside. When left alone, he and the resident dog are either left in the laundry room behind a puppy gate or outside where they have a big fenced yard and a dog door to the garage. He has not been given the run of the house. His previous owner crated him while she was away, but his foster family has not done so since he has been with them. At night he sleeps very peacefully and quietly on his big, fluffy bed on the floor by his foster parents’ bed. Going for rides in the car and taking long walks are two of Taz’s favorite pastimes. He pulls a little on the leash when he sees squirrels close by, but overall he walks nicely. He is quick to”sit” and “stay” when told, but he is a little stubborn with “come” and “heel.” His foster parents are working on that. Taz likes to play with balls and chew toys, and has tried to play with the resident dog who does not show much interest. Although initially rather possessive of his toys around the resident dog, Taz communicated that and both dogs have worked this out with no problems. The dogs are fed separately because Taz eats very quickly. Taz has not been around children or cats since he has been in foster care. He is very good with adult visitors and other dogs. This two year old acts like a big, playful, loving puppy. He has lots of energy, a very sweet disposition, and is definitely a Velcro Springer!
