Update 01/09/13: “Her foster mom has been trying to find what bad habits Tawny has and cannot come up with anything.”
Tawny came back to MAESSR’s care due to her having spay incontinence. This is normally an easy condition to manage with an inexpensive medication and Tawny is not an exception. She takes medication twice a day to control this and, now that the meds have been slightly increased, there have been no problems.
This girl is extremely sweet and willing to please. Tawny has had a blast playing with the other dogs in her foster home. At night she cuddles up between her foster parents and sleeps all night. She rides well in the car and walks well on the leash. Her foster mom has been trying to find what bad habits Tawny has and cannot come up with anything. If you are looking for a really great springer girl that loves attention and is as adorable as they come, this girl is for you.
Update 10/07/11: “What fun to watch her bound from the backyard, up the deck steps and, with a quick hop, go through the doggy door.”
Tawny continues doing well in her foster home. Housetraining is coming along just fine and she readily runs outside to do her duties. What a good girl! She has had more interactions with cats. She continues to just sniff them, accept the cats as part of the pack, and be off checking out their toys! Tawny is in the process of learning “sit” and “shake paw.” She readily comes when called or to the sound of a whistle. What fun to watch her bound from the backyard, up the deck steps and, with a quick hop, go through the doggy door. Feeding time still is top most on her list (besides playing, of course!) and she patiently waits while bowls are being prepared. With a “let’s go” from her foster mom, Tawny will run with her sister Topaz, with a couple of quick barks, most likely saying, “Me first!”
Crate training is going very well. Tawny knows exactly when it is time for bed and she readily jumps into the crate, awaiting her treat. Once lights are out, she settles right down for the night! Tawny has very expressive eyes and good eye contact which will lead her to be the top of the obedience class MAESSR requires for its youngest adoptees!
Tawny has been to several MAESSR events and has done so very well socializing with all kinds of people and other dogs. She has visited her foster mom’s daughter’s home and her adult golden retriever. While outside there, Tawny loves to romp in the yard. She will also sit and watch the retriever and the neighbor’s dog at play. Then, she takes off running to find some sticks to play with or to roll in the grass. Leash training is coming along fine for Tawny. She takes a couple of steps to sniff out a new area, but readily starts back up when called to continue.
Tawny will soon be ready for her forever home. She will do well with other dogs and cats for companions. Tawny is one bundle of sweetness who is looking for a special family that will give her lots of playtime, treats, and most of all, lots of love!
Original: “Tawny was a MAESSR representative at a local dog event and she thoroughly enjoyed the attention she received.”
What possibly could be cuter than a Springer puppy? Nine Springer puppies! It’s raining puppies in MAESSRland since a Maryland family’s purebred Springers got together and had an accidental litter. MAESSR quickly offered its assistance to the overwhelmed family in finding good, loving homes for the nine puppies. Since this windfall came in the fall, the pups were given names reflecting the beautiful colors of the season.
Tawny—a soft mix of yellow/brown colors. A soft little bundle of puppy, that is Tawny! Initially a bit reserved and shy when she first came into her foster home, she has quickly turned that shyness around! She is very vocal. In the morning, she likes to “talk” to her foster mom and give a couple of howls to let her foster mom know that it is time to come out of the crate!
Living in her foster home with her sister Topaz and seven resident dogs, Tawny respects her place in the pack and likes to stick with two of the resident dogs— her favorites. Besides playing with her toys, Tawny loves to jump all over her sister Topaz. When she was playing follow-the-leader with her pack friends, Tawny easily figured out how to use the doggy door. She was a bit hesitant on the deck stairs but quickly figured out just how easy the steps are, especially since she needs them to get into the backyard. Running at full speed around the yard, Tawny has been known to grab hold of a bush or two on the way! Although her fellow canines are great, she is not too sure about the resident cats yet. She gave them a quick sniff and then thought it was safer to check out their toys. Good judgment call, Tawny!
Housebreaking is going well for Tawny. She will go outside to relieve herself along with the other dogs, but she has wee-wee pads for an inside emergency. The pads are being used less and less and the yard is becoming her elimination place of choice. This smart little girl has learned her name and comes running when called or whistled to! Feeding time is very important to Tawny and she waits as patiently as she can until the bowls are ready. Then, it’s off to the races as she goes to the puppy pen to get to the spot where the food is served!
Crate training is going well for Tawny, too. She verbalizes her discontent at first with a couple of howls, but then, she settles down for a nap or bedtime. Leash training is a work in progress, but with some human encouragement, she keeps following along. Tawny likes to ride in the car, singing along with the radio with several howls until she settles down on the seat. Bath time is not on the top ten things to do with Tawny. Again, she vocalizes her discontent, but readily accepts the towel rubdown.
At the vet Tawny and her sister created quite a stir with their puppy cuteness. Tawny did very well with meeting other people and dogs. She wasn’t quite happy with the vaccination needle and thermometer, though and left out a squeak. Tawny does have a staph skin infection for which she is taking medication; she is healing very well. The best part of taking the medication is the peanut butter that the pill is stuck in! After licking her own lips, she cleans up her sister’s!
Tawny was a MAESSR representative at a local dog event and she thoroughly enjoyed the attention she received. She and Topaz even got a romp in the fields with a volunteer’s daughters. Such activity needs to be followed by a good nap and Tawny slept soundly even through some fire sirens blowing. This sweet little girl is waiting for her own family to share her happiness and to cuddle.
