Original: Tate came into MAESSR’s care through a rescuer who received a group of dogs from a puppy mill. He is a beautiful tri-color who is learning the joys of indoor life with a family of his own for the first time. He gets very excited when his foster family comes home and is starting to get vocal about it. He has discovered toys and likes to chew on his toys and bones.
Due to his former life, Tate does not like to be crated. However, confinement to a safe room when his family leaves is working out well. Tate is almost reliably house-broken. He does great with cats and other dogs, as long as they’re not too rambunctious. He has met children, ages 2 years and up, but wasn’t too sure about the toddler.
Having the comfort of human touch is a bit new for Tate and he’s getting to like it. When you first meet him, he does not like having his head touched. He prefers a chest or back rub but will eventually present his head for petting after he gets to know you. Tate definitely wants to please his family.
He doesn’t mind a bath or being brushed, but Tate is scared of grooming items. He may have never seen such an array of paraphernalia to help a dog look his best. He also pulls on the leash, most certainly due to lack of training. With his health issues being treated, Tate is getting perkier and more playful. He is taking cues from his foster sister which is accelerating the adjustment process.
One of the cutest thing about Tate is that he loves to chase and “kill” leaves. He growls at the leaves, then pounces, picks one up and proudly shakes it to the end. This boy is obviously learning to enjoy the good life!
