Update 05/31/10:
Tammy is an ever growing puppy, full of love and fun! She plays with all kinds of toys and her sister Patsy! Everyone at the vet’s office just adores her. She has a few more scheduled vaccination boosters and a fecal check coming up. Currently she is on medication for intestinal worms, not uncommon in puppies and, with them gone, she will continue to grow well. During the day she spent at the vet, she was a very good girl, but, Tammy was also very happy to see her foster mom arrive so she could go home and get back together with the resident dogs.
This little smartie has learned how to use the doggy doors and is doing very well on her house breaking. She has also mastered the deck stairs and readily goes up and down them. Tammy loves to play in the yard and chases a ball or the resident dogs around. Like her sister, she had started to dig but was quickly corrected by her foster mom and no longer tries to make holes. She has started on leash work and is not real fond of it. She tries to go her own way but, with consistency, she will learn leashes can take her to all kinds of great places.
Tammy loves all people and recently met a 7 year old girl and quickly gave her kisses! Tammy is also doing great on giving a high 5 as she always has her paw in the air. Her savvy foster mom thought it was a great opportunity to teach Tammy her first trick!
When her foster mom goes to work or it’s time for bed, Tammy does well in her crate. She is being fed in the crate and, when she sees the bowl heading in that direction, she readily runs in. Feeding time is a high priority for her as is treat time!
Tammy has met the resident cats. She was not too sure of them at first and was cautious, but curious. Tammy sniffed the cats and then would move away and sit and watch! “What strange animals that roll on the floor and meow and reach out for her?” she might have thought!
Tammy is a wonderful, loving, active little pup that comes when called and loves to check out new things in this growing world of hers. Tammy would love a home with another dog. She’d be fine with a cat and young children who know how to treat a young pup. One look at Tammy and you’ll be singing “Welcome to My World!” Is your world ready for a sweetheart such as this?!!
Original:
The story of Mercy and her eight pups from Tennessee could read like a country western classic sung by any artist from the Country Music Hall of Fame except that, unlike many country ballads, this song has a happy ending with Mercy and her little ones becoming MAESSR dogs! It almost did not end that way. When a MAESSR volunteer went to the shelter to get them and move them to a vet to be boarded, Mercy had just been adopted to a couple and the staff was getting ready to euthanize the puppies! Our volunteer quickly went out and talked to the couple and they returned Mercy so MAESSR could find loving forever homes for both her and the eight puppies.
So, just as Nashville has its Country Music Hall of Fame so MAESSR has its own Springer stars from Tennessee! They include mom Mercy and her boys Cash (Johnny) and Tex (Ritter) and her six girls Presley (Elvis), Marty (Robbins), EmmyLou (Harris), Minnie (Pearl), Patsy (Cline), and Tammy (Wynette).
These newest MAESSR Hall of Famers are now happily in their foster homes and soon will be beloved members of their forever families.
Tammy is all puppy love! She thoroughly enjoys being petted and cuddled, as shown by lots of tail wagging. She and her sibling Patsy live in the same foster family which means constant playing for the puppy sisters. During their play sessions, Tammy is quite the vocalist, true to her namesake! She has met all the resident dogs and just wants to play with them; she has also learned which resident dogs do not want to play! The resident German shepherd holds Tammy’s interest since the shepherd is so much taller than she is. It’s quite the sight to see Tammy jump up to get the shepherd’s attention!
One of Tammy’s favorite things seems to be her foster mom’s toes! There has been lots of high stepping from her foster mom until Tammy is picked up and redirected to a toy to chew on! When her name is called, Tammy pays attention right away and comes racing over to her foster mom. Feeding time is another favorite of Tammy’s! She gets so excited to get at her food bowl that there is a lot of nose pushing between her and her sibling to see who will get in there first! Tammy is doing well with being housetrained on the puppy wee-wee pads, going over to the pads to eliminate for the most part!
This little social butterfly attended MAESSR’s Langhorne picnic, meeting up with her other siblings and mom for a family reunion. She was wonderful at the picnic, loving all the attention! She was even great for the ride to Langhorne in the car, settling in the crate and snoozing just about the whole way! When playing with her sibling Patsy, Tammy does the “wave” by raising one paw high and then raising the other and sometimes both! She likes to play outside, running around and checking everything out. After expending all of that puppy energy, Tammy loves to snuggle up with her sibling or one of the resident dogs for a much needed nap!
Tammy will make a wonderful addition to a family with other dogs, cats, and children that are puppy savvy. Tammy will definitely “Stand by her family”!
