Original: Talley’s picture first appeared on Petfinder when she was listed by a shelter in southern West Virginia. As happens from time to time, a picture taken through a wire kennel door isn’t the most becoming or revealing for a girl. In Talley’s case, it was clear that, due to her delicate condition, a decision about bringing her into rescue needed to be made quickly. There wasn’t time for more photos……… she became a MAESSR dog.
A MAESSR home that could care for a very pregnant foster was arranged. A few days later, on a Saturday morning, Talley’s journey was made easily and quickly when another MAESSR volunteer flew her up the Shenandoah Valley to the awaiting foster family. It was surely this girl’s first time flying and everyone breathed a little easier when Talley got off the plane that day without having gone into labor.
Talley settled well in the coming week while her foster mom got busy on her behalf. Upon meeting Talley, she realized that Talley was definitely English, but a setter and not a springer. Knowing that Talley would be in better hands with people specializing in her breed, a contact was made with Above and Beyond English Setter Rescue. The only catch was that the foster home they had available to handle a soon-to-be mama was in Indiana. The need to move Talley quickly and easily one more time was met by MoStar, a group that assists rescue transports nationwide.
One week later, early on Sunday morning, Talley began her next journey and, through the well coordinated efforts of many drivers, reached her new foster home that evening. Again, there was much relief that puppies hadn’t began arriving while crossing multiple state lines. At 2:30 PM on Monday afternoon, though, as if she knew the time was right, Talley started whelping. Eleven healthy babies arrived and Talley did fine too. Once they are raised and weaned, her breed rescue will place this litter and a spayed Talley with families that are seeking setters.
