Taffy is a beautiful, liver and white, springer. A nicer dog you will not find! He is neutered, cooperative, a bit silly and calm. He travels well and had no trouble on his seven hour drive from a shelter in Pennsylvania to his new foster home in Virginia. He even scratched at the car window whenever he needed to leave the car to go out! He had a very long matted coat but was recently groomed and is sporting his summer look! The vet had to sedate him during grooming due to the horrendous condition of his coat. He has had two bathes since coming to his foster home. Both times, he sat patiently in the tub during bathing then ran through the house like a crazy guy to get dry. He loves the water, seeking out puddles on every walk and enjoying dips in the Potomac River
Taffy can follow basic commands, like: sit, down, come, shake and no. He will sometimes hit you with his big paw to get your attention or get you to play with him. He doesn’t always respond to his name but will come consistently with a whistle. He does not jump on people or furniture and has made no effort to get on the bed. He is getting better at walking on a leash; he tends to pull a bit. He is a little over weight and has been walking three miles everyday. He has already lost one pound! While walking each morning, he has encountered joggers and other dogs, and pretty much ignores them. He does bark at squirrels, horses, deer and bunnies. He saw a bunny while walking on his leash one day and almost broke his neck trying to get it!
Taffy seems good with the neighbor kids who are ages 7 and 10. He sat patiently while they petted him. He has shown no aggression toward any people or animals either at the shelter, his new foster home, or the vet. While in the shelter, he ignored the many cats that were around him; while at the vet, he seemed to interact with them appropriately. There are no cats or young children in his foster home.
Taffy’s greatest asset is that he is TOTALLY house trained. While the family is at work for nine hours, he remains accident free in the kitchen. As soon as the door opens, he makes a beeline for the yard. He has had no accidents in the house nor has he had any episodes of submissive urination. He does not seem interested in the crate but will remain behind a baby gate with minimal complaining. At bedtime, he sleeps on a dog bed in his foster parent’s bedroom.
Taffy’s eating habits are a little squirrelly at this time. He will eat if you had feed him the food. He doesn’t seem interested in treats. He has been enjoying a chew bone but will only eat it when someone is sitting right next to him. He has never bothered the trash or the recycle bin. He doesn’t beg for food at the dinner table, rather sits and watches hoping for something good to fall to the floor. He has never jumped up on the counters and has never even heard of counter surfing! He loves to play ball but doesn’t seem too interested in Frisbee. He always wants to be around people and with it being so hot, he hogs the fan!
Can you imagine a sweeter dog to have in your family? He’ll love you from the minute you pick him up.
