Update 09/17/08:
Suzie overcame the minor health problems that she arrived with at her foster home, but during the time with her family, another more sinister problem emerged. Suzie’s lungs were found to be full of cancer. Her condition deteriorated quickly and the early stages of kidney failure caused her to be a very miserable girl. With no hope for successful treatment, the decision was made to release her to the peace of the Rainbow Bridge.
Sadly, this sweet senior never got her chance to bless another family, but she was loved to her last breath by the foster family who shared their home with her.
Original:
Suzie was listed on Craigslist as a give away when an earth angel spotted her. She was so outraged by the situation that she went to the house and took Suzie home. Since she could not keep Suzie long term, this earth angel contacted MAESSR to help.
When Suzie’s angel took her to the vet, Suzie was diagnosed with dry eye, yeast infections in her ears, flea allergies, a urinary tract infection, and a heart murmur probably due to bad teeth. She was stocked up with all the medication she needed to help her feel better. In spite of all her health woes and being abandoned at a fine old age, Suzie was just as happy as can be. Showing her resiliency despite her limited vision, she followed the resident cocker spaniel around to maneuver around the house. She loved to cuddle with the three and nine year old children and the family kitten. Her rescuer crated her at night although she didn’t like it. However, until her UTI cleared up, the crate was a must.
Suzie’s health has improved greatly since coming first into the care of her rescuer and now into foster care with a MAESSR family. Medication and loving care have made a huge difference. Her eyes have cleared from crusty patches to nearly perfect in appearance. She is being treated for conjunctivitis and it is expected that her vision will improve. Suzie does follow her foster mom’s hand movements to respond to requests being asked of her. With her urinary tract infection cleared up, she has had no accidents in the house and she makes it through the night sleeping comfortably on a soft towel. Suzie has not had to be crated in her current foster home and she has free reign of the house when her foster parents are gone.
Suzie is very gentle and requires little exercise. Don’t think that she is a couch potato, though. She can walk up to three miles per day with naps in between. She is very gentle on the leash and does not pull. Also, she can maneuver the steps from the deck to the back yard with ease. When its time to go somewhere in the car, she will jump right in and settle down in the front seat for the trip ahead. Suzie also likes her time at the doggie spa and her groomer reported that she was excellent!
This sweet senior will be a blessed addition to someone’s family.
