Update 08/18/11:
Susie was returned to MAESSR’s care after many months in an adopting home because she began showing increased anxiety around children. She has settled into a new foster home with 2 resident MAESSR dogs, one that Susie is pleasant as could be with, and one that she has shown some jealousy issues with. Usually the jealousy involves a tennis ball that seems to be permanently attached to her mouth – the thought has come to mind that this young gal may require braces on her teeth if she doesn’t put the ball down a little more often! All joking aside, given all the changes in this girl’s short life, she may simply find a lot of comfort right now in having that ball with her at all times.
Susie’s impressed her new foster family during the month with them. She listens to them wonderfully and loves to be with them where ever they go. There have been a few episodes of submissive urination but, fortunately, it has happened outside. She has made herself useful in her home. She assures that the outside of the house is chipmunk-free by doing a lightening-fast sweep of the yard each time she goes outside!
Unless you’re a chipmunk, Susie’s as sweet as they come. Given the opportunity, Susie opts to sleep smack up against her people. While in her original foster home, Susie did well with people of all ages. In her current foster home, there are no children, but her foster parents are very savvy with springers and children. They are slowly exposing Susie to young people and are carefully watching her reactions. She visited in a pet supply store recently that welcomes dogs and joyfully followed kids and teenagers all around. When they tried calmly to pet her, though, Susie was not interested in having their attention. More on this gal to come.
Original:
From the time she was a puppy, Susie lived with her family in South Carolina. She got along well with all of her family members including two cats and an older ESS. When her owner had to move for work, Susie was no longer getting the time or exercise that she needed. Her owner turned to MAESSR for help finding Susie a home where she could get the attention she deserves.
With the shorter coat of a fieldie, Susie has never been to a groomer. She doesn’t like to be brushed and will try to get away, but she is fine with her feet and ears being handled. Susie is house trained and has great manners with no begging for food or counter-surfing. She has had an occasional issue with submissive urination when she gets excited in a new situation. Her foster mom tried crating Susie a couple of times but she was majorly unhappy. Instead, she is now allowed free roam in the house and has been doing quite well with this arrangement.
Although she hasn’t had any formal obedience training, Susie does come when she is called. She is good with children, but she does jump on them. Susie loves to sleep in the bed with her foster parents…and she does not think that being in your skin with you would be too close!
This super little girl would make a great addition to any Springer-loving family!
