Susie’s current owner is going back to school and his new housing does not allow dogs. He adopted Susie from the local shelter last fall. She’s friendly and has a great personality, and still likes to play, although at 8yrs old, she likes her sleep time, too.
“She is housetrained and on a set schedule. However, if she gets overly excited or scared, she’s been know to have an accident or dribble on a few occasions. She goes out on leash, and gets a short walk everyday. When she sees the leash, she’ll dance by the door this may be her “gotta go” signal, or “woo hoo! going out!” excitement, or both. She knows basic commands, but has no formal obedience training. She is leash trained, and rides well in the car. Susie loves getting in the car, but is afraid to get out, probably due to the many changes in her life this past year. She will need time and reassurance that her new forever family isn’t going to leave her. She’s also afraid of thunder.
Currently, Susie is not crated, and it’s unsure if she was ever crate-trained. She has full access to the house when her owner is away. She only barks at strangers, and settles down as soon as they make friends. She loves rawhides, and will run away if you try to try to take it. She doesn’t chew on anything else, and is gentle with stuffed animals. She can be mouthy when she plays with people. She is not food possessive. She will beg for food, and will probably counter surf if you’re not paying attention. If permitted, she will jump on people, beds, and sofas. Quite the snuggler, she’ll be content to snore away on your bed, but will also sleep by herself in the living room. She has that shaggy springer look going, but is okay with having her paws or ears handled.
Susie doesn’t have a fenced-in yard, and spends most of her time inside. So it’s unknown if she’s a fence-jumper or digger. She has shown no inclination to dig while on her walks. She also spends time off-leash, and comes right back when her current owner whistles for her from 5-10 yards away. She likes very much to be with her people. While out, be sure to bring a tennis ball and a towel, because Susie loves to play fetch and go swimming!
It was reported to the shelter that Susie was good with children, but she’s not been around them the past year with the current owner. When she was turned into the shelter last year, it was reportedly because she wasn’t getting along with other animals. We don’t have further info, and the current owner has not exposed her to other dogs or cats. Susie is fixated with squirrels, so warn your local fluffy-tailed varmints to clear out.
Susie has a few small fatty deposits, and some mild tartar. This is common with an 8yr old dog. The fatty deposits are usually not a problem, and some of the new treats on the market will address the tartar. The current owner reported that with regular cleaning, she has not developed any ear infections over the past year.
Susie is looking for a forever home that will give her lifelong stability, lots of pets, and peanut butter treats. Will you be the object of Susie’s adoration?
