Update 03/07/10:
Susanne had her spay surgery and was micro-chipped with no complications. After being a sleepyhead for about a day because of post op medication, she’s healing well. She came back up to speed with wanting to play fairly quickly, and, has had to be crated a couple of times a day to prevent all out wrestling matches with her much larger foster sister.
A trip into the nearest town of any size was a bit of an adventure. Susanne thought that her reflection in the store-front windows was a mean dog but, taking her cues off the resident Springer, she soon calmed down and set off in search of strangers willing to pet them both. The resident Springer is enjoying the backlash of everyone wanting to pet the puppy and giving her extra attention as well. The only thing she doesn’t understand is why Susanne, at 15 pounds versus her 45, gets to sit on everyone’s lap.
Susanne seems to treat everything as an adventure. A trip to the dog park with deep snow was a challenge, but she was soon wandering around. With the other visiting dogs, she explored the landscape. She’s learned to “sit” but hasn’t figured out “stay” quite yet. Her foster mom, having always thought that puppies would be trouble to foster, was wrong. Susanne is a joy to have around and a constant reason to smile. She is learning quickly, rarely chews inappropriate things and her house-breaking is just a matter of paying attention after feeding and play times. The only difficult part of fostering her is letting her go!
Original:
Once again, a litter of needy puppies has come into MAESSR’s care, this time from Maryland. These wee ones, born on December 1, were surrendered by the family that bred them in an effort to assure Springer-loving homes for each pup. Over the next few weeks, their foster families will oversee completion of their vetting. They will also start the puppies on some basic obedience and house training. Socialization with people and other pets is underway, and yes, a generous measure of cuddle time and spoiling will be lavished on each warm, little bundle of fur!
There are 3 females and 2 males in this litter, all are liver and white, and, each is absolutely adorable. Like her brothers and sisters, Susanne is off to a great start. She is a joy to have around her foster home. Already about 75% housebroken, she has an outgoing personality, sleeps from 10 PM until 7 AM without a potty break, loves car rides, plays fearlessly with the 45 pound resident female, and has just stolen everyone’s heart.
More news will come as unique personalities emerge and each puppy makes progress. To set each puppy up for a lifetime of good manners and a deep bond with its adopting family, adopters will be required to take puppies to obedience classes. Bragging rights when your pup gets the hang of a loose leash walk are guaranteed!
Laughs along the way are guaranteed too! Wet puppy kisses– a sure thing! An occasional wet puddle– likely! A comforting sense that the puppy started this spring is growing into a best buddy that’s called a perfect match! If you’re perfect for a puppy, watch for updates. Once they’re ready, placing them won’t take long!
