Update 06/20/08:
Sometimes the best of news is that a youngster is still doing great with his foster family, is still making progress on his basic life skills, and is ready to take that giant step forward into the home of a forever family. That’s just where Sunshine is at right now!
He is still cute and doing very well under the guidance of his foster mom and dad. He has learned to go into his crate without being tempted by a cookie. He sits on command. Sunshine still gets very excited and jumps but is trying to learn to control himself and keep all for feet on the ground – very hard for an energetic pup to master. He loves to play with the other dogs in his home and, especially the youngest dog. His foster family thinks he would do great with another dog in his adopting home to play with and learn a few things from.
Like most pups Sunshine is a work in progress, definitely not finished but ready to continue his education and fun with people of his very own. How about giving this sunny sweetheart your name and love?!?
Update 05/14/08:
Sunny is spreading “sunshine” everywhere he goes. He gets along great with all shapes and sizes of people and loves to travel. He rides well in the car and in the RV with his family. Camping is at the top of his list and Sunny loves to tailgate too! Just call this one a party animal!!
Along with guiding progress on his basic doggie skills, Sunny’s family has discovered that he is very afraid of loud noises. When firecrackers were shot off during races at a local event, Sunny was scared. It’s certain that keeping him distant from 4th of July celebrations will be appreciated by this little guy.
More on Sunny soon!
Original:
Sunshine, alias Sunny, came to MAESSR from an all-breed rescue, and he is all Springer puppy! He wiggles all over when you talk to him and he would like very much to be a lap dog so he could cuddle all of the time! Sunny loves everyone he meets. He and the resident dogs love to wake their mom up in the morning with lots of kisses. Sunny definitely has mastered that art. He is great with the five resident dogs. He is not aggressive at all; in fact, he is very laid back and is a follower.
Housetraining is progressing as is normal for a pup – accidents in the house, learning to go outside and receiving lots of praising when mission is accomplished outdoors. He likes to potty on the patio and his foster folks are working on getting him to go in the grass instead! With the patience and hard work of his foster parents, Sunny will learn where it is appropriate to eliminate.
Crate-training is actually going quite well. He is getting really good at going into his crate and he sleeps in it at night, doing just fine. Good puppy! When he goes for a ride in the car, Sunny is also crated. As for commands, his foster parents are working on sit with Sunny. He is so excited that it is hard to put that part of him on the ground. Leash-training has not begun as of yet.
Like most puppies, Sunny chews everything in sight. Although a pair of sandals and shoe laces are gone, Sunny is being shown that Kongs, chewy toys, and bones are much better as chewing objects and should be his first choice when the urge to chew strikes.
Soon, Sunny’s foster mom is going to introduce him to pet stores and the sights and smells associated with them. This is a fun socialization activity for any pup and it will give him more practice in riding in the car. Happy shopping, Sunny!
Sunny is so cute and would be a great dog for anyone wanting a puppy!
