Update 04/21/2021: “This incredibly sweet boy is going to bring much sunshine into someone’s life.”
Sunny moved to a new foster home and is doing very well since arriving, getting along with everyone two- and four-legged. He loves to be close to his people and really doesn’t care about the rest of the pack in his foster home (two females and one male.)
This scamp is not trusted off leash as he decided to tour the neighborhood both times he was off leash. He walks very well on a leash but will pull if he gets on a scent. He is easily corrected though with a “Sunny, No.”
Sunny was recently neutered and he has lost four pounds since his last vet visit. Way to go, Sunny!
His forever home had better not mind a wet floor as Sunny is the sloppiest drinker his foster family have ever had. He puts his whole face is the water bowl and then walks around with water flowing from his face. LOL!!! He truly is the sweetest dog. He loves his foster dad and human foster brothers, tolerating his foster mom since she the one walking around the house wiping his face!
Very laid back, Sunny just loves being a couch potato with his stuffies (stuffed animals.) He sleeps either on the couch if someone is there with him or with his college age foster brother. He is not crated but did do well in one when it was necessary to crate him after he ran off and was soaking wet from playing in his foster family’s stream. He has full run of the house with the rest of the pack but did have one or two accidents (or marking his territory) in the beginning, but that was it.
With college currently being done virtually, his human foster brother is home most of the day so Sunny gets let outside frequently to go potty. He is a couch potato though and sometimes has to be coaxed to go outside.
This incredibly sweet boy is going to bring much sunshine into someone’s life. Sunny Man is aptly named, so how could you go wrong by adding this boy to your family?
Original: “A textbook Velcro dog, Sunny will flop three feet from whatever human is around, making himself comfortable and feeling contented that his person is close by.”
When Sunny’s male owner passed away a few years ago, his wife did her best to keep their New Jersey Springer but with financial difficulties mounting, she made the hard decision to turn him over to MAESSR to find a good home.
Sunny is 100% housetrained and he paces a bit to signal his need to go out. Usually one of the other resident dogs in his foster home has asked first and he tags along. Even though his neuter appointment is still a month away, Sunny has done no marking inside despite there being another male dog around. His foster mom still has to try him in a crate to see if he has used one before. Sunny just grabs a dog bed when the humans go up to bed. Since he’s fine with the resident dogs and has had no accidents, he just gets treated like them and is closed out of the kitchen when the humans go out.
A textbook Velcro dog, Sunny will flop three feet from whatever human is around, making himself comfortable and feeling contented that his person is close by. With good house manners, there is no counter-surfing, trash-diving or chewing anything he shouldn’t. He does like to hold a stuffed animal in his mouth sometimes, but they’re his toys, not things he shouldn’t have. He’d love to be up on the sofa but settles for the doggie day bed when directed there instead.
Despite a few extra pounds, Sunny’s active and eager for walks. On leash, he’ll pull a little initially but then settles into the “Springer swing” mode where he sniffs both directions before moving forward. He LOVES car rides, doing a happy dance when he gets to go along. He knows “sit” and “give paw,” and is friendly to strangers, both dogs and humans, that he meets on walks. Sunny Man is not bird obsessed despite multiple feeders in his yard. And he doesn’t even consider going over the 4′ fence at his foster home. Good boy, Sunny! He’s fine off leash in safe situations because he focuses on his person.
Sunny likes to play chase but doesn’t really get the game as defined by his sight hound sister. He thinks there should be a real reason to rush around the yard instead of just running for the sake of it. Reportedly, he wanted to be forward with females but after two or three quick “I doubt it buddy” grumbles by the foster savvy resident female, he doesn’t push his luck. With the resident male, it’s just a game of “you peed here, so I guess I should too.” He doesn’t really play with toys other than picking up bigger stuffies and putting a paw on them while he sleeps. He does absolutely no resource guarding, not humans, toys or even food. He’s a slow eater so he has to be fed separately with the resident hounds eyeing his food bowl over the puppy gate as he takes his time. His foster mom needs to take him up to a creek to see what he thinks of water.
This handsome guy came trimmed down so it’s not known how he’d do at the groomers. But since he loves being brushed and has no issues with his ears or paws being handled, he’s most likely fine. At the vet’s, he was a bit nervous although he was a good boy and did fine. His worst sin at his foster home is that he drools a bit after lapping up lots of water. He’s active and playful and when given a bit of activity, his extra pounds should drop quickly.
Sunny lived the first seven years of his life with folks around most of the time and access to the whole house. He’s a solid citizen, friendly to all, loving attention. He would thrive in a similar situation, just hanging out with his humans, taking occasional car rides. Although another dog or more is nice, his people are his focus. Bring some sunshine into your life and adopt Sunny!
