Original: Sunday is good with children, dogs, and cats. He is housebroken. We don’t know if he is crate trained yet. Sunday is intact, but the shelter will arrange for neutering before he is released.
UPDATE:
OVERALL:
-He is walking OK on the leash – definitely walks better on a shorter leash – pulls if Monty goes ahead of him as Sunday wants to be the lead dog too. Does get wrapped around trees. No fear of the street, another reason to keep a short leash, especially on the one busier street near us.
-Very good with other dogs.
-As for cats, seems just fine with the one we have with us, but occasionally she gets too intriguing and he just has to check her out – which the cat does not appreciate. 🙂
-As for temperament… very skittish, deep voices scare him… If we correct one of the other dogs, with a deep NO, Sunday seems to cower – even if we are not talking to him.
-He lets you dry him off and touch him all over.
-We haven’t tried to take away his food or bones, & he hasn’t growled at me when I talk to him during those times, but does look at you warningly, just not sure at what you will do…
-He leans into you and puts his paws up for attention.
-He has very sad eyes and a very pouty mouth. 🙁
-He sits on command, most of the time.
-Stays for about 5 seconds.
-Shakes or gives Paws with a little help.
-He does jump up on you, very gently though and puts his head down at the same time – more of a plead for attention. We have been saying OFF, very gently as to not scare him any more. He listens.
-I think he is more like 4-5 years old, unless mistreatment and neglect have made him older beyond his years….
-Sunday is prone to cower and growl if frightened.
THOUGHTS:
He is all around a good dog, needs some reinforcement obedience training. He is very lovable and huggable. Not sure if someone with younger kids would be the best family, older kids that understand some factors would be better. Likes to play but not overwhelmingly too much.
Needs patience and love, as we all do….:-)
UPDATE:
More on Sunday
-As you can see he got groomed on Sunday – looks & smells very nice!
-He hasn’t had any other “scary” moments… very huggable all the time – he is a momma’s boy… he definitely needs a home with someone there most of the time.
-He has been all around very good – follows Monty most of the time
-Wrestles with Monty – likes other dogs – likes to play…
-Very good with cats –
-Good with greeting small children but don’t know about babies
-Seems to have had some training – but just needs reinforcement – His name is “iffy” kind of knows it, kind of doesn’t
-Eating well – sort of allows you take things away from him – he stole my apple off the counter and he let me take it away from him very easily… & bones too… seems to be ok with it… wouldn’t say safe for “untrained” children – he just might need someone with older children
-Walks pretty well – if kept on a shorter leash – longer leashes he tends to get tangled sometimes – but he is learning more everyday.
-Likes to run, too
-Still pees when I go to let him out of the crate…but doesn’t when people come to visit or knock on the door…just after being left alone –
-I did keep him out while I was gone for 3 hours… and he wasn’t destructive… but isn’t afraid of baby gates… at all.
-Not hyper at all – easily controlled
