In Summit’s previous life she was a hero. She was living with her owner in an apartment building when that building caught fire. Being the loyal Springer that she is, Summit barked and barked (and barked!) until her owner woke up and got himself and others in the building to safety. Summit saved their lives! Shortly after the fire, her owner moved to a different apartment building and left her with his aging parents. They had recently retired and didn’t really want a dog, especially not an inside dog. Realizing that Summit deserved better than life outside, his parents took her to a West Virginia shelter where some other rescue volunteers contacted MAESSR. That turned out to be Summit’s lucky day!
When she arrived at her foster home, the relief was evident on this little girl’s face and in her non-stop wiggly butt! Summit was very happy to not only to be inside, but to have canines, felines, and a human to interact with on a continual basis.
Summit is a very good girl and has good house manners. She is completely house trained and will go to the door and whimper when she needs to “do her thing.” She can be crated if needed but, since she is not destructive in any way, she has free run of the house and gets to sleep wherever she wants at night.
Although Summit is much too short to counter surf, she would most likely “nose” in the trash to see if there might be something good in there. Summit does not jump on the furniture but will sit between her foster mom’s legs all night long for ear and belly rubs! Summit also very much enjoys riding in the car and going for walks. Because she was rarely walked in her previous home, Summit needs a little bit of work on her leash skills. Either a Gentle Leader or a harness would probably help with this. The only basic command this girl knows is “sit,” but she is very smart and will learn more commands quickly with a little help and consistency.
Summit loves everyone she meets, especially children! She is currently living with six other dogs and three cats and gets along wonderfully with all of them. She especially loves the one male foster sibling who licks her face!
Summit went to the vet as well as to the groomer for the first time and was a bit nervous. With a little more exposure to both of these places, she will begin feeling more comfortable. Summit is also a little overweight, so some healthy treats like green beans and a high quality food along with some regular exercise will help this girl get to her ideal weight in no time.
This well-mannered sweetheart will soon be ready for her forever home. If you’ve been searching high and low for a new family member, your hunt may end on this Summit!
