Original: “When his aggression did not dissipate, it became sadly apparent that Sully’s temperament made him unsuitable for adoption.”
Sully came to MAESSR when his New Jersey family became uncomfortable with his aggressive behavior around their young children.
He was sent to MAESSR’s most experienced foster family who worked with him for three months. When his aggression did not dissipate, it became sadly apparent that Sully’s temperament made him unsuitable for adoption. With love and kindness, Sully was sent to the Rainbow Bridge.
It would be so wonderful if all of the Springers who came into foster care could be rehabilitated and rehomed. However, this dream is unrealistic; a small percentage cannot. Temperament or disease or past trauma sometimes cannot be overcome despite the herculean efforts of their dedicated, experienced foster families.
The decision to send a dog to the Bridge is a heartbreaking one and is not made lightly. It is done to protect MAESSR adopters, ensuring that their fuzzy new family member is as sound and safe as could be determined by the foster parents.
So, when you see “Not Suitable for Adoption” on the temperament line, say a little prayer not just for the dog but also for the foster parents who tried so hard to save this pup.
