Original: Sugar came into MAESSR’s care after a Maryland breeder lost interest in Springers. This apparent sweetheart has had a pretty rough life up to now. She has been living outside all her life and has never been inside a house. Sugar’s health was poor when she was first vetted and, through MAESSR, she is in the process of being stabilized. Eye and ear infections, dermatitis, and possible mange are among the first issues to help her with. She has also been placed on a different food from what she was eating in her original home to try and reduce her weight.
First impressions are that Sugar is a very sweet dog that seems to get along well with other dogs. An update on her progress will be provided. Please keep a place in your heart for this special gal in need.
Update 09/13/09: Sugar is doing great! She has been on lots of antibiotics, etc. and has improved her health to the point that she was able to be spayed. Her vet has been terrific. Sugar has a tiny little incision which has made her recovery very easy. She walks with her foster mom and the rest of her pack. Her skin, eyes, and ears are looking much better. A supplement to provide joint support is helping, too. She seems to have more energy and had lost 3 pounds when weighed a few days ago. What a wonderful turnaround!!
There are 4 dogs and 2 cats in Sugar’s foster home, and she is the second youngest. She is very happy and content and gets along well with everyone. She is very close with the youngest dog that was rescued at the same time as Sugar from the same kennel. The two snuggle together on their beds. Sugar is house trained, is not crated, and loves riding in the car now. She loves to chew on bones and carries around a stuffed toy that her family calls her baby.
Sugar is mellow and sweet as can be. You couldn’t ask for a better companion. Lucky will be the family that asks for Sugar and makes her their very own.
