Stryker is an energetic young Springer who proved to be too much for his Virginia owner. Because of serious medical problems, she could not give Stryker the exercise and play that he needed. She did not want to let him go, but decided that he deserved the best home. So, she contacted MAESSR.
This youngster has fairly good house manners. He does not chew, urinate submissively, beg for food, or counter-surf. Admittedly, he has been very interested in food on the counter, but Stryker has only looked, but not taken. Stryker is not too keen for housecleaning chores, though, and he thinks the mop and the vacuum cleaner are fairly dangerous objects that definitely need to be barked at. Oh, the things a guy has to cope with!
In his excitement to meet people, Stryker will jump on them in greeting. If it is time for a walk, Stryker is always game to go along, walking well on the leash. He can be trusted off leash, too. Or, if it is time to go somewhere in the car, Stryker would love to go along and is a good passenger. He’s even willing to go to the groomer where he has no issues. Good boy, Stryker!
Stryker would be a fantastic dog for someone willing to work with him on proper hunting skills. He spends hours in the backyard of his foster home chasing birds. He will sit under the bird feeder and wait for one to fly in so he can chase it. With proper training and structure, this boy would be a great hunting companion. If the birds are nowhere to be found, Mr. Activity loves to chase a plastic bowl, bottle, or ball. When given a bone, he most likely will bury it rather than chew on it. When there is some activity outside, Stryker will bark to let his people and the other dogs know. Although he has never been swimming, he would probably love to try since he really enjoys the water. Life is never dull with Stryker is around!
To help him make the transition to foster home and then to adoptive home go more smoothly, Stryker was started on some inexpensive anxiety meds. In the few weeks that he has been on this medication, his foster mom has already seen benefits for Stryker.
If you are willing and able to invest time and effort into training and lots of activity, you won’t strike out with Stryker!
