Stoney went to a fantastic home. We couldn’t have asked for a better home for him!!
Update: 2/26/03:
Stoney is a wonderful, sweet, loving and handsome Springer. He has completed all his medical treatments and now needs a forever home. He likes other dogs and doesn’t seem to mind cats but will bark at them to say hello. It might be best that he not be placed with young dogs or children as they will probably be to active for him. Resident dog decided to jump on him to play and it was clear that it bothered his hips. He does take two 1/4 mile walks per day and does well but he would probably be just as happy to sit out on the steps and watch the squirrels and birds go by. Stoney knows how to go to the bathroom on command! It is clear that he prefers to be very close to you and when he is not following you around, he will lay on his bed and watch you. He has figured out the Kong but is not interested in chasing the tennis ball. Like most dogs that went hungry during their life, he does not like to be bothered by human, canine or feline while eating. He does like to eat out of the trash can so best to keep it out of his way. He knows sit, down, kisses and time to go nighty-nite. Stoney is crated for up to 7 hours per day but this probably won’t be necessary in his new home.
Stoney is not nearly as sensitive around his hips and his foster Mom is sure it has to do with the regularity that Stoney is taking his medication. Due to him feeling better, Stoney is now interacting more with the resident dog, in his foster family.
Stoney will make a wonderful companion.
Original:
Stoney has a wonderful temperament. Within three hours of meeting his foster mom, he let her give him a complete haircut, including feet and ears. The haircut was necessary because he was extremely matted and flea/tick infested. (The were many opens sores on his body from where he had scratched himself raw. His foster trimmed him to be able to get medication on them). His ears are majorly infected, but he still let her handle them. He also has an impacted anal gland. He is a really nice boy that is just looking for love.
Stoney came from the Amelia County, Virginia shelter. He had been relinquished there because of a domestic violence situation in the family. The animal control people had been after the relinquishing family for quite a while to take better care of their animals. The wife finally decided she was leaving and called the animal control people to pick him up. Stoney is EXTREMELY thin. His hip bones just jut out. He is being fed pasta and yogurt in addition to his regular food to try to put some weight on him.
Stoney’s best quality is that he will let you do anything to him. He wants attention so badly that even an ear cleaning is a sign of love. Stoney was raised with children, the youngest was 5. Stoney shows NO interest in cats. When his foster mom was at the shelter picking him up, the shelter “cat” sat beside him while they filled out all the paperwork.
Stoney knows no commands and would love to attend an obedience class. Stoney rides well in a car.
Are you the person to show Stoney how good life can be?
