Original: Full of fun and energy, Stiggy is a lovable Springer boy! He enjoys playing with toys and wrestling with the other dogs in his foster home. He also loves cuddling and sleeping in bed with his foster parents. Stiggy rides well in the car and walks well on a leash. He is just a ton of fun to have around!
Stiggy was relinquished to MAESSR by his Pennsylvania family because of his hip dysplasia. His former owners had been told he would need surgery on both hips. MAESSR had him evaluated and the veterinary consensus was Stiggy did not need hip surgery. Although his left hip is worse than the right hip, it is believed that Stiggy can comfortably live if he takes Dasuquin with MSM twice a day and fish oil capsules. This should help the hip joints to rebuild muscle and structure. Approximate monthly cost of his meds is about $35. He may occasionally need some pain medication if he really over-does it. Stiggy will also need to be walked using a harness every day. Using a harness requires the dog to use hip and back muscles which will help strengthen his rear.
Stiggy’s foster mom believes that he is worth the little bit of extra effort it will take to keep his hips healthy.
Update 12/10/09: Stiggy continues to do very well in his foster home. He runs and plays like a madman. The supplements he is on for joint support have made a big improvement for this boy. The only reason Stiggy has not gotten the go-ahead to meet a prospective furever family is due to a UTI. His foster mom wants to make sure he is clear prior to adoption. It won’t be long now. This is one FUN boy who is hoping to bring in the New Year in a big way!!!!
