Original: “Stella loves to chase and harass Noah and is probably an instigator in most of the normal puppy commotion.”
Although it is rare for MAESSR to have puppies for placement, Stella and her littermate Noah came into MAESSR’s care when a Springer breeder in Maryland developed serious health problems and had to rehome his dogs. Fostered together, these two bright-eyed pups are growing and learning by leaps and bounds!
Stella is a very smart puppy, doing well with attention exercises and recognizing her name. But the name “Puppy” works too! Stella is a little more reserved about approaching people than her brother, but is food motivated and loves to cuddle. She is a little marshmallow and when being held, her body just wraps around the neck of the lucky one holding her. Mellow yes, but pushover no! She holds her own and usually stands over her brother. Stella loves to chase and harass Noah and is probably an instigator in most of the normal puppy commotion. Stella also is interested in the adult dog in the home. Both puppies love to chase her, and she loves them and their puppy antics.
Initially the two pups slept together in a large crate with newspaper at one end for those “just couldn’t hold it any longer” moments. They now are sleeping in separate crates at night and their bedding has been dry in the morning, which starts any time after 4 a.m. They are well on the way to housetraining. As a signal that it is time to go outside, their foster mom rings a string of sleigh bells and the puppies follow her like the Pied Piper to the front door. Most of the time they make it without any mishaps.
Stella is very smart and her “worst” behavior (if you can call it that) is barking. Since their foster mom started feeding the puppies out of individual bowls, the vocal competition for “my share” has ceased.
Stella enjoyed her bath and was a very good girl for nail trimming while wrapped in a towel. Both puppies are able and willing to jump into a puppy pool, but Stella is “Queen of the Water Bucket.” It hangs on the side of the crate and she knocks it around and digs in it until all the water has spilled. To the lucky family adopting Stella, don’t say you weren’t warned about this water play!
Potential adopters should note that MAESSR only places puppies in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience, and they do chew on things! The decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. To reinforce this commitment, MAESSR requires all adopters of dogs one year old and under to enroll their puppy in obedience classes within 60 days of adoption. Stella is a smart little pup and should be a star pupil!
Although the pups have been in lockdown like the rest of the world, they have had the experience of walking on many surfaces including a wobble board; they love to jump in and out of the kiddie-pool with or without water and do figure 8’s in the bushes. Her foster mom thinks Stella has what it takes to become an expert in areas of obedience, rally, nose work, and possibly field work but also will be an “expert” lap dog. She has great attention and desire to please!
Fostering Stella is a joy! Their foster mom is going to miss the pups when they are gone, but knows they are going to be the best antidote for these trying times for some lucky person.
