This sweet Springer mix ended up in a shelter in Tennessee. Luckily, this handsome boy did not have to wait there long. He was quickly pulled by MAESSR volunteers and transported to Pittsburgh where he is currently staying with his foster family.
Spunky’s name fits him well as he is a happy, alert, and playful pup. He loves playing with his toys and will run around the house to find them and bring them to his people. Being with his humans is high priority for Spunky. This Velcro boy follows his foster mom around the house like her shadow. He does great with the three year old in his foster family, too. He wants to play with him and does not mind sharing his toys with his human brother. He LOVES, LOVES, LOVES giving kisses and will bathe his people in them if allowed.
Inside the house, Spunky could use some help with learning house manners as he likes to counter-surf. He is still working on housetraining and is doing extremely well. During the night, he is crated and he sleeps in his crate during the day as well when he feels like taking a nap. Spunky barks at strangers but calms down quickly once he is reassured.
Spunky could use training when it comes to walking on a leash but using a gentle leader helps. He is quick at learning tricks and commands and has already learned to “sit,” taking treats gently, and to “come” when called. He rides well in a car even for long trips like his journey from Tennessee to Pennsylvania.
Outside, Spunky loves to chase birds, squirrels, and cats. Although he will try to chase cats outdoors, he supposedly passed a cat test at the shelter; it is unknown how he would react to being around one. Spunky does extremely well with other dogs and loves his time at the off-leash dog park running around with his doggy friends.
At the groomer, Spunky was not fond of having his nails cut, but most likely it was his first time being groomed.
This high energy pup who would do great in a house with a fenced-in yard as he needs the space to run and explore. A highly active family who would take Spunky on outdoor adventures would be perfect for this little guy.
