Springer and his litter sister, Sara 4, belonged to an older couple from Pennsylvania. When the husband died at 100 (with Springer sleeping in the bed next to him) and the wife went into assisted living, their daughter took the duo in for a few weeks but realized that four dogs were just too many. Since she’d adopted from MAESSR in the past, she knew just where to reach out to find them a good home.
Springer and his sibling Sara have been a really easy foster duo. He is slightly more bonded than she is, but both are willing to eat, sleep and hang out as a set. Reportedly, Springer marked a few times when staying with his original owner’s daughter and her two male dogs. So, he got to wear a belly band the first week in foster care until proven trustworthy. Now he and the resident male just share pee shrubs outside. Springer shares a crate or sleeps in an adjacent crate to his sister all night or when the humans are away. At night, they seem to enjoy the security of the crate. During the day, they flop near the humans or in a sunlit corner of the kitchen. No bad habits out of this cute guy who sports a lovely topknot. The only time he’s barked is when the residents are letting their people know that there’s an oil delivery or the pizza person has shown up.
Though trained to an invisible fence, he enjoys the small (1/4 acre) fenced yard, and especially the bird feeders which attract squirrels. He doesn’t seem to have a cue to go out but is happy with a regular schedule. He’ll sleep from 9-7:30 at night and gets breaks every 3 to 4 hours for yard time. He likes car rides and meeting new people. He shows no signs of aggression at all for food, toys, or humans. He’s used to being close to his sister and tends to translate this to meaning that all dogs will love it when he flops next to them. He doesn’t play so much as he loves chasing around the yard with the other dogs, seeing what’s going on. He loves having his hair brushed, was good at the vet and has been a super easy foster. He knows “sit,” “down,” “sit up,” and “beg.”
Since Springer and his sister Sara 4 are litter siblings and have been together for 7 years, their foster mom thinks that it would be sad if they were separated at this point. They are an easy duo to have around inspiring smiles every day.
