Springer has settled right into his foster home. His coat is growing back and little feathers are starting to reappear on his legs. When his fur has grown out again, he will be one handsome springer!
He is now playing ball but prefers to carry a stuffed animal. He always has one in his mouth. He goes out each morning with his toy, and in his excitement, leaves it outside. He is met at the door with the usual question, “Where’s your toy?” and out he scurries to retrieve his prize possession.
This sweetheart wants to be with his family all the time. He is happiest when some part of his body is touching a human. If you move, he will move closer. When off leash, he will race around but he listens to commands and will return. His foster family is careful to give him this chance only where he would be safe if his attention was diverted and he chose not to listen. His obedience is very dependable, but he does love to run.
Originally Springer had some submissive urination issues. These have stopped now that he is settled in. His new family will want to set up a routine of going right out with him when they return home to continue his success. He will crate, but really prefers not to, and is enjoying free roam of the house during the day. He will counter surf when there are good smells but he will put paws on the floor upon request. He also listens to his foster mom’s guidance when meeting new dogs. He has been introduced to several, and each time, he grumbles and tries to act in charge. When corrected, though, he will stop and then try to play with the new friend.
Part of being close to his people means that Springer will guard them if he thinks they are threatened in any way. This is done with a fierce bark and a low growl. When reassured by them that “It’s ok,” his tail wags and he will ignore whatever the intrusion is. His foster mom is working with him to make traveling more enjoyable. He is eager to go and heads right to the car, but once in, he whines. A human touch helps him with this, and his foster mom feels that his anxiousness will ease when he begins to connect good things with the rides.
When Springer first arrived, his tail would barely move. He was a fairly sad and upset dog. Now his tail moves from morning ’til night. Whenever you speak to him, he is happy to greet you, wag, and give a kiss. Springer will make someone a wonderful companion. If you are looking for that special dog to be your adoring buddy, Springer is the dog for you!
Original: Springer came into rescue as an owner-surrender. There were several school age children in Springer’s home who didn’t know how to respect and live with a dog properly. His owners felt it best that he go to another home. He weighs around 55 pounds and needs to take off a bit of weight. He was groomed and given a military haircut to help get to the bottom of reported skin allergies. When he visited the vet with his foster mom, he seemed to be healthy. His former family reported that he had a thyroid problem but tests showed no evidence of that. He has a fatty tumor on his shoulder that should cause no problem and he is being treated for minor ear infections.
Since in foster care, Springer has shown no problems around children but may do better in a home without children or with older children who know how to treat a dog. He will follow his foster mom everywhere. He is good around his food bowl with humans and allows them to take anything from it when he is eating. He has been known to counter surf in the past and will explore garbage cans if allowed. He likes plush toys, rawhides, and riding in a car.
Springer is completely housebroken and can be trusted alone up to 8 hours at a time with free run of the house. He likes to run in the yard but has shown little interest so far in playing ball . This fellow lives with all female dogs, including 2 springer spaniels and one cocker spaniel. He walks on a leash although he could use a refresher course on not pulling.
Springer wants nothing more than attention and love. He is a wonderful dog who deserves a chance at a happy, healthy life where he is treated with kindness and positive reinforcement. This loving guy was given up through no fault of his own and will make his forever family very happy to have his companionship!!!
