Original: “Everything his foster parents could think of was tried in an effort to reach him, but they were unsuccessful.”
Spot was purchased by a family in Brooklyn, NY as a companion dog for an autistic twelve-year-old. He was raised in an apartment and trained to use pee pads rather than being taken outside to relieve himself. His only exercise was running after a ball in the hallway. When the autistic child began constantly pestering Spot, he began to nip at her. Then, the decision was made to relinquish him to MAESSR to find him a more appropriate home.
Transitioning to a farm in Virginia from his apartment world in Brooklyn has been like Dorothy landing in Oz from Kansas. Poor Spot had not been taught any manners and was scared when seeing anything new. His response is to growl those unknown things– people, flags, toys, everything. Unfortunately, he is a snapper.
Because of his nipping, Spot was sent to MAESSR’s most experienced foster home where his foster parents worked with him for the past three months. Unfortunately, his behavior just kept getting worse and worse. He did not like to be restrained in any way. He was a good dog as long as he could do whatever he wanted and only what he wanted. Everything his foster parents could think of was tried in an effort to reach him, but they were unsuccessful. Spot was humanely sent to the bridge. Be at peace there, Spot.
