Original: “This outgoing, energetic puppy (who is a little feisty) is usually the first of the bunch to explore and check out new things and enjoys chasing the big dogs around as they play fetch with balls and sticks.”
Sporty was part of a litter of 8 that came into MAESSR’s care at 9 weeks old when a Maryland breeder fell into bad health and could no longer care for his dogs. She has since been fostered with two brothers and a sister.
This outgoing, energetic puppy (who is a little feisty) is usually the first of the bunch to explore and check out new things and enjoys chasing the big dogs around as they play fetch with balls and sticks. She is always quite proud of herself when she is able to win the stick or ball, prancing around happily with it. She loves snuggles, too, and when play is done, she loves nothing better than to find a lap to curl up on. Her combination of confidence and quiet sweetness has made her a fan favorite with many of the neighborhood kids.
Sporty is great with kids and has been toddler-tested with children as young as three. She loves someone to play with—kids and/or dogs. Happily, she lets the foster kids carry her around and if the play goes outdoors, she loves a game of chase around the back yard. Sporty is great with other dogs. She has been fostered with her two brothers and sister as well as a six year old female Springer and a ten year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and has done well with all. There are no cats in her foster home.
At 16 weeks, Sporty is still learning commands but knows “sit” and “come.” Potential adopters should note that MAESSR only places puppies in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience, and they do chew on things! The decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. To reinforce this commitment, MAESSR requires all adopters of dogs one year old and under to enroll their puppy in a series of obedience classes within 60 days of adoption. Sporty is a very smart little pup and will be a star pupil.
Sporty is working on housetraining but has work yet to do. She is crate trained and sleeps in the crate overnight with one of her siblings.
Sporty has been calm in the car during trips to the vet, enjoying the security of her crate during these rides. Fed inside her crate, Sporty has the routine down to go to the crate at feeding time without issue. She will bark to let her person know when she is finished and ready to get out or wants a drink. Not a big fan of the running water at bath time, Sporty calms down when it is turned off. With a bit of wiggling over the excitement of being held, she will let her foster mom clip her nails. She sometimes thinks the brush is a toy but if it means sitting in someone’s lap, she is all about getting a nice brushing.
Make this little sweetheart yours!
