Original: Sport lived his entire life with his original owner and her husband who passed away six years ago. Although always a good dog who had been no trouble, Sport decided that the newly installed carpeting would be a tasty treat, so he tore and chewed up a section. This sentenced Sport to his crate while his owner was at work. Thinking that Sport deserved a better life than behind bars, his owner relinquished him to MAESSR so he could find a new home that does not redecorate often.
This adorable middle-aged boy is a true velcro Springer in that he wants to be wherever his foster mom is, even in her small house. Generally, Sport has nice house manners. There was just one incident of attempted counter surfing and his foster mom taught him that it is not proper behavior for a Springer. The trash does not seem to tempt him, though. Sport is housetrained as well as crate trained, but he would rather be loose in the house rather than crated when his foster family is at work. Although his previous owner allowed Sport on the furniture and on the bed, these habits are not allowed in his foster home. This has been a little difficult for Sport to understand, but he and his foster parents are working it out.
Sport loves to go on walks and he has very good leash manners. He is also the type of dog that could be trusted off the leash, with the commands that he knows. Sport responds to sit, stay, wait, heel, and ok; he also knows the words “treats” and “walk.” In the car, he rides wonderfully without a peep.
When it comes to people and other animals, Sport is a mellow guy wanting to be friendly with all others in the household whether they are two-legged or four legged, humans, dogs or cats. His previous owner said that he got along well with her grandchildren, the youngest of whom was two. Sport’s foster mom concurs with this as Sport was great with two ten-year-olds that he met, one with autism and the other deaf. Sport would do well with children in his forever home.
If you want a true Velcro, snuggler Springer, then Sport would be the dog for you.
