When a Pennsylvania animal shelter with which MAESSR has mutual volunteers got in a litter of four English Springer Spaniel/English Shepherd mix puppies, MAESSR was asked for help in placing them as their shelter was really full and this would allow space for another needy dog or two from a kill shelter. At the shelter these adorable brothers that look more like field bred Springers would sleep in a pile on top of each other in their kennel. Now, Spooky and his littermates, Casper, Magic, and Simon, have been moved to two foster homes where they continue to thrive. 

Spooky is extremely friendly and loves to be held and cuddled! He just melts into your lap and arms in total comfort, feeling totally secure with love. Spooky likes to be where his foster mom is and looks at her with total trust and love. He has met small toddlers and children and does well with the little ones as well as all adults! A veteran of two MAESSR events, Spooky has done very well in all the hustle and bustle of getting everything ready for the event and thoroughly enjoyed all the attention. One event held a parade and Spooky sat quietly and still while he watched the parade in amazement!

A pro at the vet’s office too, Spooky has behaved well there with the staff just adoring him. After spending a night in the vet hospital for his neutering, Spooky was glad though to see his foster mom the next day, though. The cone he had to wear for a couple of days was of absolutely no concern with Spook! Good boy!

Spooky gets along with all the resident dogs and knows his place in the pack. When he met the resident cats, he was totally spooked by them and decided to stay away from these scary creatures! Good boy! Spooky knows exactly where to go when it’s time to eat and the anticipation of getting his bowl is at times beyond his control! Mostly, Spooky will sit and watch with occasional counter-surfing to see what the hold up is, but he is learning he must sit and wait and not check out the counters. Spooky is working on his housetraining and doing very well. He will run outside with the resident dogs using the doggy door which took him all of 30 seconds to learn! Smart little pup!

Spooky and his brother Casper like to play with each other and with their toys. They run outside in the back yard at high speed just seeing who really is faster! At bedtime, Spooky knows to go into the puppy pen as it is there where the bedtime snack is served. He settles down nicely for bedtime to be well rested for the next day’s excitement!

School has started already for Spooky. He is learning sit and wait and is doing pretty well on these commands especially when there is a treat involved! Spooky likes to go for walks and does pretty well on a leash, too. Although a bit shy when first getting inside the car, Spooky rides well once the car starts moving, cuddling up next to his foster mom and napping. As per MAESSR requirements of young pups, obedience classes will be highly beneficial for Spook to grow into a well-trained adult dog. Please note that MAESSR only places puppies in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience, and they do chew on things! The decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. To reinforce this commitment, MAESSR requires all adopters of dogs under 1 year old to enroll their puppy in an obedience class within 60 days of adoption. Eager to please, Spooky will be a good pupil. 

This active but gentle pup is ready to find his forever home. His foster mom’s wish for Spooky is that his forever family will enrich his life with learning and love so he becomes a fabulous adult dog. In turn, they will be rewarded by having a devoted dog who will give them all his love. With such adoring eyes full of love, you’ll be sure to fall in love with little Spooky.
