Sparky was surrendered to a Pennsylvania shelter due to his owner moving to a place where dogs were not permitted. When MAESSR offered to take Sparky, the shelter happily agreed knowing that a wonderful new home would be found for this happy boy.
From Sparky’s perspective, he has never met a stranger yet; everyone is a friend! He loves adults and children alike. When he met his foster parents’ grandchildren (ages 2.5 and 5), he showered them with kisses! Meeting this bouncy, happy boy can be a bit overwhelming for really young children, but under his foster parents’ supervision, Sparky settled down and was great with the kids. Although he does not interact much with the resident dogs, they all get along well. Sparky is a bit obsessed with the resident cat; however, the cat hasn’t given her approval yet. So, the cat runs away with Sparky is in hot pursuit in a fun way. Sparky doesn’t want to eat the cat; he just wants to see her. He did manage to escape the fenced yard once while chasing the cat, but Sparky was easily retrieved once he chased Miss Kitty up the neighbor’s tree!
Sparky is a wonderful guy with a laughing face and jovial personality! His foster mom says he is the least stressed shelter dog she has ever seen, except in thunderstorms. Housetrained, he had only one accident in the house, due to looking for the cat while outside and not taking care of business first. He signals his need to go out by going to the door and barking. Sparky is crate-trained and it is his preferred place to nap, even if the smaller resident dog is already in the crate! More the merrier in Sparky’s mind! He doesn’t mind sharing his crate. When his foster family is gone, Sparky stays in the crate, but the rest of the time he has free run of most of the house. He does fuss a bit when his foster family leaves, but quickly settles down in the crate with his special treat. At night he sleeps quietly next to the master bed.
With his great house-manners, he is even more mannerly than the resident counter-surfer! Sparky doesn’t even get up on the furniture, except for some snuggle time on occasion. This smart boy knows the commands “sit,” “down,” “stay,” and “roll over” (his favorite!). When out on a walk, Sparky does pull on the leash some in his excitement. He loves to meet new people on his walks! On car rides, he is a great passenger.
Got toys? Sparky hopes his forever home will buy him lots since he loves his toys, especially playing fetch with his kong and Frisbee! When play time is over, Sparky is a typical Velcro guy, wanting to be right with his people. Sparky does not resource guard toys or food from his people or the resident dogs. He does need to be supervised when eating since he will just leave his food bowl and let the other dogs eat his meal. He is not a gobbler; he actually tastes his food! So, Sparky is a lean, very active guy. His intake form at the shelter said that he is a great swimmer, chases critters and is a good hunter and great in the field. These have not been verified personally by his foster family, but they had him on a short leashed hike and he was on fire, totally loving it.
Sparky is great for home grooming since he is a low maintenance guy. Of course he thinks everything is a game, but he loves getting brushed out. Also, he has the cleanest Springer ears his foster mom has ever seen! Having his feet and ears handled does not bother him in the least. All of his vet work had been handled at the shelter, but his foster mom can’t imagine he wouldn’t be golden at the vet’s office also.
Sparky is a little firecracker that has sparked things up in his foster home! Let him light up your life!
