When an internet advertisement was discovered seeking a new home for little Sophie, MAESSR responded. This young fieldie Springer from Virginia is an energetic, beautiful, little girl. She has integrated herself well with her foster family, getting along well with humans as young as eight, resident dogs, and even the family cat.
For a puppy her age, Sophie’s house manners are coming along nicely. She will jump up on the couch to be close to her mom, but her foster family is working on having her respect the furniture. Table manners are a work in progress. She’ll try to counter-surf and make her presence known at the table. She’s quick to obey the continual reminders about proper puppy behavior. With time, this will improve. A real love bug, Sophie will lie down when it is time to calm down. Good puppy! Sophie is crate trained. At night she sleeps in her crate in the bedroom with her foster mom and dad; she sleeps through the night with no problems. When her parents are away from home, she does not have full access to the house. Her family is working on improving Sophie’s leash manners, which should improve with practice. She’s a very good girl riding in the car; she sits and looks out the window while traveling.
Running and playing with her canine siblings is so much fun for Sophie! She’s often found playing tug-o-war with them using a stuffed animal. Sophie has no resource guarding – she’s just a very hungry little puppy, so she’ll try to steal food. Can you blame a growing girl?
Sophie is still very much a puppy. Potential adopters should be aware that MAESSR only places puppies in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience, and they do chew on things! The decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. To reinforce this commitment, MAESSR requires all adopters of dogs one year old and younger to enroll their puppy in obedience classes within 60 days of adoption.
Sophie’s foster family feels that she would fit in well with a family with children. She would do best having another dog in the family to help work out her energy. Most of all, she needs a family to give her the love, attention, and time to work with her to put her puppy energy to good use. In return, they will be rewarded with a sweet, loving, well-behaved Springer pup.
