Update 04/06/10:
Through no fault of her own, nor that of an adopting family, Sophie has returned to MAESSR’s care. She is settling in and doing great in her new foster home. After a few scuffles with the resident dog, the two have worked out their differences and now get along great. Sophie is still a puppy and likes to test her limits, so she sometimes needs to be reminded of her place by older dogs. Sophie has a lot of puppy energy (What good Springer pup doesn’t?) but she is very easy to exercise. She loves playing fetch and, unlike the resident Springer, actually brings the toy back and releases it to be thrown again. She is walking well on a leash with a few reminders not to pull. She is even a good jogging partner. She would like to do more but, of course, her foster mom limits her running since she is still a growing girl.
At first, Sophie was very interested in the cats in her foster home. She got quite a thrill out of chasing them around the house and up the stairs. Once Sophie actually caught a cat, it wasn’t as much fun as she thought it would be. Although she still usually can’t resist following them as they race through the house, she no longer chases them into corners and barks, much to their relief!
Sophie LOVES her stuffed toys. She got a new toy yesterday and was very proud of it. She carried it around the house for an hour and, when her foster mom let her out to do her business, she kept it in her mouth the whole time! What a silly girl.
Sophie is a great puppy. She is completely housebroken and crate trained. She is very smart. She knows how to sit, shake, and high five! Because she is so smart and eager to please, she is very easy to train. When she first moved to her current foster home, she used to jump when she was excited or wanted attention. Now, she is learning that she gets what she wants when she is calm and keeping all four paws on the floor. She will make a great addition to any active home that wants a smart and loving girl to complete their family.
Original:
Sophie came to MAESSR because she could not understand why she could not boss around the young children in the house. If they came around her food bowl or toys, she would growl at them. It was felt that Sophie would do better in a home without young children. Her foster parents believe Sophie would be fine with visiting children, though. She does very well with adults.
Her previous owners had taken her to obedience class and she knows several commands. MAESSR will require that Sophie take the next series of obedience classes with her adoptive home due to her age. She’ll be a great student since she LOVES to learn and please.
Sophie is completely housetrained and crate trained. Her house manners are great, but she will try to counter-surf occasionally. She walks well on a leash, but when she goes for a car ride, she does tend to drool. Still the Springer puppy, Sophie loves to run, wrestle and play with the other dogs in her foster home. She is a bit hesitant when she first meets a new person, but quickly warms up with the help of a few treats. Sophie has been to the groomer, but is very frightened of the clippers.
Sophie is going to be a wonderful addition to some lucky family.
